‘The Rookie’ Season 7: Jenna Dewan Reveals Personal Challenges and Excitement About the Role
The seventh season of the police procedural The Rookie is set to hit screens in January 2025, and series regular and mother Jenna Dewan recently sat down with Woman’s World to share if she is returning for season 7, how she manages her melasma with Neostrata and her favorite thing to do with partner Steve Kazee. Keep scrolling for more.
Woman’s World: What made you want to team up with Neostrata and how has it helped you manage your melasma?
Jenna Dewan: Neostrata is a brand I’ve used for many years to maintain my skin and make it look as even, glowing and healthy as possible.
My melasma is a whole other situation. I’ve had it for years. It causes skin to darken, and when I found Neostrata, I noticed that their products were the best thing to help me keep it at bay. So I used their vitamin C or glycolic face wash, and I was in love with the PHA Renewal Pads, which worked for me on a daily basis.
We want to stay on top of it as much as possible with our skin care. I wanted to have a little bit more sculpting and firming and take care of some fine lines I was noticing, so I started using their sculpting neck cream. And it’s amazing. I’m so obsessed with it. It just helps keep everything looking moisturized, even and glowing. It even helps with the lifting and sculpting of the neck, which I think many women forget about. We all focus on our face, but you forget that your neck and chest can also show the first signs of aging, so bring it down and ensure you’re taking care of your neck.
WW: What is your favorite skincare routine? Is there one product you have to have as a mom on the go?
JD: Currently, the product that I have to have is the triple-firming neck cream, because it’s so moisturizing. It’s also a multitasking product and because I work all the time, have three kids and have a partnership, finding a product that will do multiple things at once is great and the firming neck cream does that. I use that every morning and every night, and it’s effective. And I would say the other product that I can’t live without is the vitamin C serum from Neostrata.
WW: Has your skincare routine changed as a mom? Is there anything you care more about now?
JD: After becoming a mother of three, I only care about effective multitasking products. I want to use something that will help keep my skin camera ready, and it will take less than two minutes, be effective and work. So that has changed.
WW: How has having melasma affected your life, and what do you want people to know?
JD: Because I’m on camera a lot, it’s not easy to cover. When you put on makeup on melasma, you can still sort of see it underneath. It looks a little gray underneath the makeup. So, the more that I can take care of my skin and help it look healthier, the more it helps me and the makeup artist.
It’s tough because you can’t really go in the sun. You always have to wear a ton of sunscreen, and I’m always wearing a hat. My years of laying out in the sun on vacation don’t really happen as much anymore because the heat and the sun make it stronger, causing the dark brown spots to come out and be even more pronounced. So it starts to affect your lifestyle.
You don’t feel as good in your skin when you have to use a lot of different makeup to cover it, and it takes longer in the makeup trailer, which is a whole other part of it. So, anything that I can do that reduces it and also keeps it at a minimum has been amazing for me to find.
WW: How do you like to kick back and relax after a long day? Is there one thing you are excited about this fall?
JD: I like to watch a TV show and zone out with Steve [Kazee]. I also like to take a hot Epsom salt bath. That is my other favorite way to end the day. If I have 20 to 30 minutes to myself, that’s probably my go-to.
Something I’m looking forward to this fall is pumpkin lattes.
We actually have a pumpkin patch field trip coming up in a few weeks. There’s a place in LA that you can go to, and they have strawberry picking, a pumpkin patch and all this fun stuff. The greatest thing about being in LA around Halloween is there’s a lot of fun things to do. There’s the pumpkin patch, of course. There are a lot of movies in the park that are fun to watch. There’s a lot to do in LA in October, which is exciting.
