Tracker Season 2 Family Reveal Still Exciting Despite Disappointing Jensen Ackles Update

Despite the disappointing Jensen Ackles update, Justin Hartley’s promise to introduce more of Colter Shaw’s family in Tracker season 2 is still exciting for the show. Actor Russell Shaw is set to star in a new Amazon Prime series, with Ackles playing the lead. While this is an exciting development for the Supernatural star, it does hamper Russell’s chances of having a strong presence in Tracker season 2. With Ackles starring in the new thriller Countdown, it will be difficult for the actor to make the guest appearances that were previously expected.

Tracker is set to premiere in early 2024 with a short season of just 13 episodes. Season 1 introduces the bounty hunter’s family and establishes how Colter lives his life on the road. It introduces the Tracker characters, including Colter’s remote support team and important family members. Colter’s mother, brother, and sister are introduced, along with a discussion about what happened to Colter’s father, who was supposedly murdered by Colter’s brother, played by Ackles. So Ackle’s appearance in season 2 seems imminent, but there are still great stories to look forward to even if actor Dean Winchester doesn’t return.

After season 1 ended, Justin Hartley announced the characters who would be returning for Tracker season 2. He confirmed that his This Is Us co-star Jennifer Morrison would be returning to join him on screen as Lizzy Hawking. In season 1, Hawking debuted as a past friend of the Colter family who provided important information about Colter’s family history. So she could continue to shed light on their past as the story continues. This could also go hand in hand with Hartley’s plan to bring her “whole family” back.

The characters will help continue to unravel the mystery of who killed Colter’s father in Tracker. The murder of Ashton Shaw was a major focus of the story in season 1. While Colter’s brother may not return, the focus on family is still good news for Tracker season 2 as the other members of the Colter family have a lot to answer for regarding what they knew about the Shaw family patriarch’s murder and why they hid the information from Colter. While it would be satisfying to see the Shaw brothers on screen together, his other relatives are more important to the story of season 2.

While Ackles may not return as Colter’s brother, there are still ways for the Colter family to form a core part of the story. Season 2 could feature Colter’s mother, Mary Dove Shaw, played by Wendy Crewson, who has the most to explain about keeping information from her son. It could also bring back Melissa Roxburgh as Colter’s sister in Tracker, who viewers discovered hid documents from Colter in season 1. After both women in his family kept his father in the dark, the return of Colter’s mother and sister would be crucial.

While it would be interesting to see Jensen Ackles in Tracker season 2, Justin Hartley’s promise that his family will appear in the show’s second season offers a lot of storytelling potential. In fact, returning characters like Colter’s mother and sister are much more important to the plot moving forward. Russell all but cleared his name from his brother in season 1, while Colter previously believed his brother killed their father. After the big reveal in Tracker season 1, the return of Colter’s sister and mother is much more interesting, and thankfully, that’s still on the table.
