The Rookie season 7: Everything you need to know before watching

Nathan Fillions cop drama-comedy The Rookie has finally announced its Season 7 premiere date. The ABC show is returning for an 18-episode run, which has promised to be nearly uninterrupted, minus a possible address from the Oval Office.

Per TVLine, The Rookie will return to ABC on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10 pm. The shows original premise followed Nathan Fillions John Nolan, a forty-year-old man looking to start a career as a police officer. Now a fully-fledged member of the LAPD, the show follows Nolan as he trains a new generation of rookies using his own life experiences and his hazardous experiences on the mean streets of L.A

Superman actor Nathan Fillion addresses the flaws of his character, Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and how he approaches them.

In a time period in which real life law enforcement are receiving more criticism than usual, some might be strange to find a show likeThe Rookie to be striving. However, The Rookie chose not to shy away from the negative associations that have come to be mainstreamed with law enforcement. It has adapted to this new political landscape, and instead of shying away from criticism that police officers in the U.S. face, it embraced them and challenged its stories to show how these keepers of the peace can do better.

“I always tried to approach from a place of having cops trying to do the right thing,” The Rookie showrunnner told The Guardian of the shows early seasons. But after 2020, It felt like being solely aspirational wasnt good enough anymore, that we were showing a version of policing that was alien to many people.”

What Fans Have to Look Forward to In Season 7

Along with the show returning with uninterrupted mid-season breaks, fans will have plenty more to look forward to (including more of what comes to be referred to as Chenford). The end of Season 6 saw John and Bailey (Jenna Dewan) discussing plans to start a family through adoption, so fans will get to see the antics of these two raising a child.

The Rookie shocked fans by killing off Captain Zoe Andersen short of its Season 1 finale. Here’s what happened and why Mercedes Mason left the series.

Fans will also see more of Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) and Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore), two characters whove been integral to the show but whose relationship has been mostly overlooked this last season.

Chenford will also be returning with the fallout of Lucy (Melissa ONeil) and Tims (Eric Winter) break-up, which devastated so many fans of the show whod long campaigned online for the two to be together. Certainly, many hope to see them return to each other, and it will be a massive factor for fans of the couple returning to the show to tune in every week.

And, of course, John will get a new rookie, which may prove interesting to see how they compare to his previous trainee, Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chaveth).

Seasons 1-6 of The Rookie are available to stream on Hulu. The seventh season will start streaming in 10 weeks, giving fans and new viewers plenty of time to catch up.

Starting over isn’t easy, especially for John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of joining the LAPD. As their oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from those who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.
