The Scoop on Jennifer Esposito’s Possible Return for ‘Blue Bloods’

Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and the rest of the Reagan clan will return for more stories of the NYPD when Season 14 of ‘Blue Bloods’ premieres its final eight episodes.

One of the longest-running police procedurals in television history, Blue Bloods will return for the second half of its 14th and final season this October now that CBS has announced its fall 2024 schedule. The first 10 episodes aired earlier this year, and now the final eight episodes will run.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” said series star Tom Selleck, who plays NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

And even as it’s labeled a police procedural, the truth is Blue Bloods is more of a family drama, the family being the Reagans, the first family of New York law enforcement, with Selleck starring as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan as well as the patriarch of the family as father to Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Erin (Bridget Moynahan) and Jamie (Will Estes).

Is there a trailer for Blue Bloods the second half of season 14?

No footage has yet been released, but you might enjoy this post of Donny’s goodbye speech to the cast and the crew.

He says, ““Four years ago we were in this room and none of us knew if we would ever see each other again for a lot worse reasons. Maybe one of the worst days of my life, and I’m sure in a lot of your lives. We didn’t know what was going to happen in this world, and somehow we got another few years together and God willing we’ll get some more time together to do something magical again. I would just be honored to work with any of you again and I pray that that can happen, one way or another. I won’t give up trying. Let’s have a great night together, we f**king earned it.”

Are there any spoilers for the second half of Blue Bloods Season 14?

Showrunner Kevin Wade told TV Insider after the Part 1 finale that he’s committed to making the same show he has these past 14 seasons for these final eight episodes, most importantly, he doesn’t see Frank retiring.

“I’m pretty sure that Frank would stay in his job until the series ended,” Wade told TV Insider. “We didn’t really pursue that avenue because the show is built on him being the police commissioner of New York City. So to take a detour during the last mile, if this is the last mile, I don’t know what he would be doing down at the hardware store or having coffee with old buddies during the day. I always have to look at stuff that generates stories. Police Commissioner of New York generates stories. He’s the CEO of 35,000 cops.”

Wade’s also told TV Insider not to look for a Danny and Baez romance at this point in time. “We put Jamie and Eddie together a few years ago. I think the show would dip into parody if we had two of our cops marrying two of their partners who are getting into that. And candidly, to me, Danny Reagan has been built and played as a loner.”

Wade also shared that he would wrap up the series in the finale, despite the hope that there will be more Blue Bloods in some format.

“There won’t be any cliffhangers because there’s no cliff, but it ends,” Wade told TV Insider. “Anything we would do that was an open question would by definition never be answered, so we’re trying to bring character stories to a close in that one. Obviously, we have some stories, some plot, but no, it’s designed as the last one.”

Sunday dinner

Will there still be a family dinner each week on Blue Bloods Season 14?

Sunday family dinners are the one thing that can always be counted on each episode with Frank and Henry overseeing the family.

Will There Be a Blue Bloods Spinoff?

Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted back in June that a new Blue Bloods series is in the works. He said at an annual stockholders meeting, “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for DexterBillions and Blue Bloods.”

And Robbins has since been backed up in his statement by CBS Studios President David Stapf, who told Deadline that while there are no immediate spinoff plans, they are trying to figure out a way to make the series a franchise.

“We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon but it’s a brand, a title and a show that is beloved,” Stapf told Deadline. “We’ve got to get it right so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out, OK, what is the next iteration of Blue Bloods? We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long as to how good that show is, so there’s still time for us to figure that out.”

What happened at the end of part one of Blue Bloods Season 14?

The midseason finale saw Danny and Gormley teamed up as they tried to reign in Gus Vanderlip (Aidan Quinn), a detective who went rogue when a serial rapist he had arrested two weeks earlier was released because of the city’s bail reform law.

Then, on the eve of their fifth wedding anniversary, Jamie and Eddie were sent on an undercover assignment at a rehab facility that was believed to be running an insurance scam – and it was.

It also saw Frank and Henry at odds over a late cop’s use of the 9/11 fund, so much so that Henry moved out of the house leaving a note for Frank that he was “staying with friends/Don’t call me.” Of course, it was resolved by the end for a family dinner.
