Jay Hayden speaks on the possibility of making an appearance in Grey’s Anatomy as his Station 19 character. Hayden is known for playing Travis Montgomery in the series Station 19, which began in 2018. Station 19 is a spinoff of the series Grey’s Anatomy, following the lives of people who work in firehouse station 19 in Seattle, Washington. The series includes some crossover characters with Grey’s Anatomy, most notably featuring Dr. Ben Warren, who is played by Jason George. Ben’s wife Miranda Bailey, a beloved Grey’s Anatomy character, also makes occasional appearances in the spinoff.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for FBI: International, Hayden speaks on whether he would be open to appearing in Grey’s Anatomy. Asked if he would consider appearing on the medical procedural, Hayden noted that he will “always love that world,” particularly praising Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. As for returning to play Travis, Hayden seemed very open to the prospect overall, saying he would “always get back there.” Check out the full quote from Hayden below:
Screen Rant: We’re so excited to see you in this new role, but we also love Station 19 and miss Travis. Grey’s Anatomy is still out there…would you ever want to revisit that character again?
Jay Hayden: I will always love that world. I will always love Shonda and Shondaland. They know they can always call me. I’ll always get back there. I really love playing Travis, and I worked really hard at creating that character, and I enjoyed every day of doing it. So that door’s never closed. It’s all just, “When would you like me to show up?”
What This Means For The Grey’s Anatomy Universe
Station 19 Ended This Year
Referenced briefly in this interview is the fact that Station 19 has now concluded. Station 19 was canceled after seven seasons, airing its last episode in May 2024. Though there has been a campaign by fans to bring the series back, the return of Station 19 has not been confirmed. The interviewer makes a good point, however, in noting that Grey’s Anatomy offers a possibility for Station 19 characters to return again. The fact that Hayden is willing to do so is a good sign that the Station 19 season 7 finale may not have been the end for Travis.
Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy had many crossovers over their dual tenure, so it is conceivable that the long-running medical series would want to bring in characters like Travis. However, the focus of these crossovers has primarily seen characters that originated in Grey’s Anatomy coming over to Station 19, rather than the other way around. Including Travis in future Grey’s Anatomy seasons would be an interesting disruption of this precedent for the Shondaland shows.
Our Take On A Potential Travis Crossover
This Could Be Strategically Wise For Grey’s Anatomy
As of now, ABC has not announced the return of Station 19, despite the fan campaigning. The reaction from the show’s audience shows, however, that fans are hungry for more Station 19-related content. As such, I think including a character like Travis in Grey’s Anatomy could be a great way to appease the fan base without having to completely resuscitate Station 19. Whether the Grey‘s team actually does so is a different story, but it is an appealing hypothetical.
