NBC has confirmed the premiere date for One Chicago’s next triple crossover event. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. will be crossing over in 2025 for the first time in six years.
Deadline reports that all three Chicago procedurals will come together on Jan. 29 for a three-part story arc that will air from 8pm ET through 11pm ET. Chicago’s rescue workers will race to the scene of a raging fire in a high rise building that threatens the lives of both the residents and first responders. Here’s the official synopsis: “When a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, Chicago’s first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. The calamity beneath the surface, however, sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.”

Anastasia Puglisi, of One Chicago production company Wolf Entertainment, has likened the triple crossover to the scale of “a three-hour action movie”. “[This] is an incredibly ambitious task requiring complete coordination across our writers, casts, crews, and producers, along with help from the city of Chicago,” Puglisi teased. “We’re thrilled to have the best talent in every department to meet this challenge, reinforce the #OneChicago brand, and provide our fans with a unique and compelling viewing experience.”

The Chicago Med team responding to this potentially deadly emergency includes S Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Steven Weber as Dean Archer and Oliver Platt as Daniel Charles from Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, while Chicago P.D.’s 21st District squad features Jason Beghe as Hank Voight, LaRoyce Hawkins as Kevin Atwater and Marina Squerciati as Kim Burgess.

Multipart crossover events were a hallmark of the One Chicago shows in the early years, but they were put on the back-burner after 2019. The first-ever One Chicago crossover occurred during Chicago Fire’s first season, when the episode ‘Let Her Go’ functioned as a backdoor pilot for the characters from Chicago P.D. The backdoor pilot format was used once again in the Chicago Fire episode ‘I Am the Apocalypse’ to introduce the doctors at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center ahead of Chicago Med’s premiere. Chicago Justice was similarly previewed first in Chicago P.D.’s third season, though it only lasted a single season before being canceled by NBC. The One Chicago shows are a part of Dick Wolf’s decades-spanning TV universe, which also includes the Law & Order and FBI shows.
The Chicago TV franchise has seen many cast members come and go over the years, but one notable exit came when Yuriy Sardarov exited Chicago Fire as firefighter Brian “Otis” Zvonecek after season 8. Sardarov recently told Screen Rant that he would return to Chicago Fire “in a heartbeat”. “Look, that’s my family. We got so close on that set, and I just saw a bunch of them the other week,” he said. “And I would do it in a heartbeat, just because I miss everybody, and I love everybody. It was just such a pleasant set to be on.”
