‘We’ll See What’s Next’: Yellowstone Spinoff Teased as Series Officially Ends After 5 Seasons

Yellowstone star Cole Hauser teases the future of the franchise as the main series officially comes to an end.

Speaking to People, Hauser discussed both the overall reaction to the franchise and what the future may look like following the recent Yellowstone series finale. “I think America has spoken. They still love the show,” Hauser said. “There’s obviously just tons of people that every Sunday get together with their families, and we give them the experience of taking ’em out of their own living rooms and putting ’em in Montana and entertaining them.”

With regard to what part his character Rip Wheeler will play in future entries in the Yellowstone universe, Hauser stated, “We will see what happens over the next year or so and we’ll see what’s next. Hopefully, we can continue to get in people’s living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years.” Hauser added, “For me, to be able to do that, to educate people, enlighten and entertain them is always the dream.”

Hopefully, we can continue to get in people’s living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years.

Yellowstone premiered in 2018 starring Hauser as Rip Wheeler, husband to Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and son-in-law to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton III. The series followed the Dutton family as they managed, protected, and fought for their home and land, kicking off a sprawling television universe in the process. The original Yellowstone officially came to a close on December 15 with the release of its fifth and final season finale, marking 53 total episodes across one of the best critically received runs in the industry. So far, the Yellowstone franchise has come to encompass three series, including the 2021 and 2022 prequels entitled 1883 and 1923, respectively, with three spinoffs and another prequel series already in development.

The Yellowstone Franchise Will Continue to Expand

On December 11, it was confirmed that one of these spinoffs would focus on Rip and Beth’s relationship following the end of Yellowstone, with both Hauser and Reilly having officially signed on to reprise their roles. Fans can also look forward to the release of Yellowstone spinoff The Madison in 2025, which will follow a family of New Yorkers who relocate to Montana. The Madison is set to star Michelle Pfeiffer alongside an ensemble cast including Rebecca Spence, Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garret, and Elle Chapman. Also in the works are a 6666 spinoff centered around the goings-on of the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, and a 1944 prequel which will serve as a direct follow-up to the events of 1923.

Yellowstone is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
