Virgin River’s season six finale was a whirlwind of events, so let’s break down the key moments from the must-see TV wedding of the year.
This season was all about Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) tying the knot, but it wasn’t without its fair share of hurdles.
From medical crises to family conflicts and even an unexpected rivalry, here are the crucial parts of the wedding leading up to that shocking cliffhanger.
Did Mel’s father walk her down the aisle?
Sadly, Mel’s father Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson) couldn’t attend the ceremony as he suffered a heart attack the night before.
The agony of almost losing another father figure was too much for Mel, who required some words of encouragement from Jack while Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole) distracted everyone with a lengthy speech about love.
Her boss Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins (Tim Matheson) was also quite upset when she asked Everett to escort her down the aisle, reigniting their old feud.
However, they eventually made amends when Everett admitted he had attempted suicide on the night of his car accident, which resulted in Doc being unable to save a young boy’s life.
Later, after Mel and Jack exchanged their vows, Everett made a heartwarming surprise appearance at the couple’s first dance, serenading them with the song he penned for Mel’s mother, a piece he’d finally finished after years.
Did Mel and Doc make up?
Before the nuptials, Mel and Doc had a heated argument, the intensity of which they hadn’t experienced since Mel first arrived in Virgin River.
Despite Doc’s almost parental bond with Mel, she rebuffs him with “You’re not my father” when he expresses frustration over her growing closeness to Everett, especially when she accepts his help during an emergency.
With some persuasion from Hope and Mel, plus a meaningful conversation with Everett, Doc softens and decides to attend the wedding. He even steps in to walk Mel down the aisle while her father is hospitalized – though, unbeknownst to the guests, her father is was likely preparing for his memorable performance.
Do Brie and Brady rekindle their romance?
This season’s wedding preparations brought challenges, but one of the most tangled plots was the romantic entanglement involving Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen), Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth), Lark (Elise Gatien), and Mike (Marco Grazzini).
Earlier on, Brie reignites her connection with Brady by sleeping with him after leaving a tipsy voicemail during Mel’s bachelorette party, where she admits she “can’t stop thinking about him”.
The drama escalated as Lark overheard their confession of love at the wedding, leaving her heartbroken. Later on, she ominously tells Brady “this is your fault” before disappearing to find her daughter Hazel (Ava Anton).
As the night concludes, Brady finds out that his bank accounts have been emptied – Lark had duped him after all.
In another twist, while Mike divulges to Brie his dream of them being together forever, he also shockingly acknowledges her fling with Brady. The suspense builds as we’re left hanging before Brie can respond, teasing further complications in season seven.
