All 6 TV Shows and Movies Taylor Sheridan Is Currently Working On

Writer, director, and producer Taylor Sheridan has proven himself to be quite the triple threat in Hollywood, with the creative genius having established one of the industry’s most exciting and buzzed-about sensations: Yellowstone. Sheridan is no stranger to both the big and small screen, as he has not only acted in popular shows like Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy but also crafted a thrilling neo-Western universe that fans can’t get enough of, consisting of dazzling spin-offs (with many more on the way).

Sheridan branched out from Yellowstone and expanded the franchise with the successful prequels 1883 and 1923, and upon the streaming knockout’s polarizing series finale in December 2024, he has many more originals awaiting eager fans who aren’t quite ready to officially say goodbye to the tough and resilient Dutton clan. Let’s take a look at every TV show and movie Taylor Sheridan is currently working on.

‘6666’

Centering on the legendary Texas ranch featured in the fourth and fifth seasons of Yellowstone, 6666 will explore the rich history of the Four Sixes Ranch where the young and determined Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) was sent by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) to learn how to improve his skills and become a real cowboy capable of handling anything thrown his way. Paramount has revealed that the series will take place at the real life ranch, which covers nearly 225 square miles of land and was bought by Sheridan in 2022 for a reported $192 million.

Clues for ‘6666’ Are Likely Found in the Final Season of ‘Yellowstone’
Despite the spin-off first being announced back in 2022, the exact plot and time period for 6666 has yet to be disclosed, though Yellowstone helped potentially set up the series in its fifth and final season when ranch hand Jimmy and his wife Emily (Kathryn Kelly) were seen at the Four Sixes ranch, thus setting the scene for the new show and indicating the couple will be the main stars. It seems as though Sheridan was laying the groundwork for 6666 in the final season of Yellowstone, as so much of it had to do with Texas and Rip (Cole Hauser) and his men even headed to the ranch to help the Yellowstone cattle stay alive during winter.

‘1944’

1944 is another prequel series in the fan-favorite Yellowstone universe that will presumably follow the lives of a brand-new generation of Duttons on the iconic Montana ranch, following in the footsteps of fellow shows 1883 and 1923 and further exploring the intriguing origins of the prominent family. Since 1944 will take place during World War II, many have speculated it will highlight America’s struggles during the global conflict and could feature the ranch in a new light, as women took on jobs previously held by men while they were away serving in the war.

Details for ‘1944’ Remain Vague
As with 6666, the premise for 1944 has not officially been released by either Sheridan or Paramount as the creator has many projects in the works, though 101 Studios executive Tom Prince (who produced Yellowstone) stated that the series will be a direct follow-up to the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led 1923. “My guess is that it’ll be shooting largely in the Bitterroot Valley because it has to take place at what is Chief Joseph Ranch,” Prince said in 2023, with Chief Joseph Ranch serving as the Dutton homestead in Yellowstone. No cast and crew members have officially been announced for 1944 as of yet.

Sheridan enlisted the talents of a stacked ensemble cast to headline his upcoming neo-Western spin-off The Madison, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox just a few familiar faces set to star in the sequel, which will focus on the McIntosh family as they attempt to acclimate to their new life in Montana’s Madison River valley after relocating from New York City; the series has been described as being a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection” and was initially said to take place after the events of Yellowstone.

The Madison Explores Montana With a Different Lens
Pheiffer was cast in the lead role of wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn in August 2024 and will also executive produce The Madison, with Paramount Global co-CEO stating that the seasoned actress “is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe, Madison, from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.” Production concluded in December 2024 though there is no official release date, with The Madison and Yellowstone director Christina Alexandra Voros said the shows share a “common g

round” with “the landscape”, revealing to Variety in November 2024:

“We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”

Untitled Beth Dutton & Rip Wheeler Series

Throughout its five sensational seasons, the enduring romance between the fiery and fierce Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and strong and stoic Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) became a staple in the series, with the couple becoming a beloved fan-favorite duo. Instead of having the pair become the lead characters of a sixth season, Sheridan opted to conclude Yellowstone’s run and create a spin-off focusing on Beth and Rip, which will likely include other cast members from the original hit reprising their respective roles.

Beth & Rip Are Back For More Action
Since the untitled series will directly follow the timeline and events of Yellowstone and will feature many of the same actors and characters, it is the only franchise spin-off that will have the name Yellowstone in the title. Beth and Rip’s new show will help continue the storyline of its predecessor, with the couple deciding to embrace a change of scenery and head to a new cattle ranch in Dillon, Montana after the Dutton daughter purchased the land in the drama’s series finale. Fans can expect the spin-off to feature the couple squaring off against old and new rivals as they attempt to make the ranch thrive and become their new permanent homestead.

‘Empire of the Summer Moon’

Not only is Taylor Sheridan a powerful storyteller on the small screen, but he is also the creative mind behind many acclaimed films like Hell or High Water, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Those Who Wish Me Dead. The writer, director, and producer is currently working on adapting the S.C. Gwynne book Empire of the Summer Moon, which provides a thorough and highly-detailed historical account of the brutal forty-year struggle between the Comanche tribe and white settlers in their battle to control the American West.

Sheridan’s Ultimate Passion Project
Empire of the Summer Moon is a major passion project for Sheridan. The Comanches were revered fighters and Quanah was regarded as their finest chief, with the book also exploring the legendary leader’s origins and his ties to cattleman and rancher Samuel Burk Burnett (who purchased the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which Sheridan now co-owns).

The book’s author, S.C. Gwynne, is excited that Sheridan is bringing his literary work to life, telling Deadline he “can’t think of anyone better qualified” to depict the harrowing events and history:

“He has a deep and nuanced understanding of both the myth and reality of the Old West. I am thrilled that he is undertaking this project.”

‘2024’

In May 2023, shortly after news first broke that Kevin Costner would be walking away from Yellowstone during its fifth (and ultimately final) season, Matthew McConaughey was announced as the potential lead star for a sequel series entitled 2024. The Academy Award-winning actor was supposed to headline the Sheridan original, but the project was eventually retooled and became the creator’s other upcoming drama The Madison, thus leaving 2024 and McConaughey’s involvement in the Yellowstone universe in question.

The Fate of McConaughey’s Project Remains Unknown
McConaughey was announced to be officially joining Sheridan’s lucrative empire back in March 2023, though talks began to stall as the actor was reportedly asking $2.5 million per episode to take on the Dutton mantle and was therefore unable to accept other gigs because they could potentially conflict with the show’s production. With so many other spin-offs in the works by Sheridan, a McConaughey-centered series remains an unknown, especially in light of his absence from The Madison, and no further word has been given regarding the True Detective star joining the ever-growing universe.
