Every ‘Yellowstone’ Series and Spin-off Currently in Development

Yellowstone has been one of the biggest hits of the 2020s and its fans might be sad that the show has now ended, but its universe is just getting started. Described as the “The New Dallas,” the series — revolving around the Dutton family and the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch (the largest ranch in Montana) — never won any Emmys, but it won fans’ hearts. Thanks to its success, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount have made many more shows, most of them set in the same universe.

Several more spinoffs are in development, and we can’t wait to see how they’ll turn out. So far, Taylor Sheridan has been King Midas with a cowboy hat, churning out TV gold at an electrifying pace. We thus have every reason to believe that all Yellowstone babies currently in the womb will grow to be titans once birthed. And in a television landscape where reconciliation can never be ruled out, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Kevin Costner appearing in one of the offshoots via flashback scenes.

5. ‘1923’ (Season 2)

Premiering on February 23

Starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Cara Dutton and Jacob Dutton respectively, 1923 has been a major hit with critics. Set after the events of 1883, the show follows the two characters as they maintain the ranch left to them by Jacob’s late younger brother, James (Tim McGraw). Jacob and Cara will now be back for a second and final season, premiering in February.

Two of the Best Leads Currently on Television

1923 Season 2 is a great milestone since it is the only time a Yellowstone offshoot has had an additional season. For a show starring two of the greatest actors of our time, nothing was ever going to go wrong in the first season, and we don’t expect the second season to be a mess either. Hopefully, Emmys will come this time. As good as Yellowstone’s world has been, the golden trophy has eluded it, and we hope the snub will end soon.

For now, one can’t help but marvel at how Sheridan always manages to get big-name actors for his shows. Who knows? Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood might appear in one of the upcoming productions.

4. ‘The Madison’

Unconfirmed Release Date

Michelle Pfeiffer in French Exit
Sony Pictures Classics

The ever-gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer (famous for portraying Catwoman in Batman Returns and Elvira in Scarface) will steer the ship in The Madison. The legendary actress is set to play Stacy Clyburn, the matriarch of an affluent New York family forced to trade the big lights of the Big Apple for the trees and barns of Montana after a tragedy. Adapting to the country life won’t be easy, but her struggles are what we all look forward to seeing.

The Yellowstone universe has been majorly patriarchal so far, so it will be refreshing to see things from a woman’s perspective again, as is partly the case in 1923. Sheridan couldn’t have chosen a better lead. Pfeiffer knows about portraying well-heeled characters. Just peek into Scarface to see. The series will also star Patrick J. Adams, better known for playing Mike Ross, in Suits, so brace yourself for charm and class.

So far, there is no word about how The Madison will connect to the Dutton family, and it will be interesting to see how that happens. Will we see one of the best TV mothers or the worst one? Time will tell.

3. Untitled Beth & Rip Spinoff

Unconfirmed Release Date

Details about the upcoming spinoff centering around Beth and Rip are sketchy, but there’s a rough outline of a world where the lovebirds start a new ranch and attempt to create a fresh legacy without the Dutton tag. The show is set to explore their relationship further and we’ll most likely see them build a huge family.

The Love Story Goes On

A Beth & Rip spinoff is a smart choice since the two were some of the most popular Yellowstone characters and one of the most adorable TV couples. The parent show’s early conclusion prevented their arcs from being explored fully, so it only makes sense for a separate vehicle to be commissioned.

Be prepared for a spinoff that seems more like Season 6 than a separate series. After all, any major deviation from the main show’s template will likely disappoint fans of the two characters. One can bet on the offshoot digging deeper into romance arcs than in its parent. So, Yellowstone was labeled a soap opera? We will be showered with even more declarations of love in Beth & Rip’s story.

2. ‘6666’

Unconfirmed Release Date

Jefferson White as Jimmy in Yellowstone, wearing a red 6666 shirt and a cowboy hat on a ranch.
Paramount Network

6666 will be set in the famous Four Sixes Ranch in King County, Texas. The ranch, owned by Sheridan and his business partners in real life, appeared numerous times in Yellowstone, memorably when Jimmy Hurdstrom heads there to learn the basics of cowboy life. Fans of the original series are familiar with a few of the employees, notably Travis Wheatley, the head cowboy, and a Dutton family associate.

The Ranch’s Long History Provides Plenty of Material to Explore

Is Sheridan being too ambitious? How far deep can stories about ranch employees go? The idea of a Four Sixes spinoff has worried fans since the ranch isn’t that different from the Dutton land. Can the show be unique?

Well, the real Four Sixes was established in 1900 by cattleman Samuel Burk Burnett, meaning there is about a century and a quarter of history to explore. Burnett is rumored to have won the ranch from a card game in which he scored four sixes while other reports claim the name emerged from the first herd he raised, which was branded “6666”. Up until 2020, the ranch was owned by the Burnett family, so 6666 could easily be a show about this particular clan, or one inspired by it. Add the fact that the ranch was once used to shoot various commercials and the western, Mackintosh, and T.J., and you have an excellent story.

1. ‘1944’

Unconfirmed Release Date

Kevin Costner as John Dutton in Yellowstone
Paramount+

1923 is set to end after the second season but the story is far from over. Taylor Sheridan will make a continuation show set in the year 1944. The appropriately titled 1944 will follow the next generation of the Dutton family as they deal with their era’s challenges. The spinoff is expected to trace the footsteps of Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) after they inherit the ranch.

The Duttons During the War

After 1833, and 1923, there will only be one major gap left in the Dutton family timeline and 1944 is expected to bridge it. When the spinoff ends, fans will have seen all generations of the family, leaving them with a better understanding of how everything fell into place. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, the show likely includes the birth of Dutton III’s father, John Dutton II. Even better, we might get plenty of WWII-related storylines.
