A Betty White Tribute Golden Girls RPG Is Coming to Twitch

To honor Betty White’s memory, an actual-play Golden Girls-themed TTRPG will be streamed on her birthday, with all proceeds going to the ASPCA.
In honor of the great Betty White, a Golden Girls-themed Dungeons & Dragons-style RPG will be livestreamed on Twitch next week, with all profits going to charity. White, the famous actress known for her iconic role as Rose Nylund on the 1985 television show, The Golden Girls, passed away on December 31st, 2021. White was just a few weeks away from her one-hundredth birthday at the time of her passing .
Thanks to the flexibility of the tabletop roleplaying genre, there is no end to the many ways in which players can get creative and enjoy a game that suits their interests and playstyle. While Dungeons & Dragons typically favors fantasy stories and settings complete with fantastical characters, mythical beasts, and daring heroes, D&D can be tailored to suit any group of players. This is, in part, why D&D has remained so popular over the years, giving players lots of creative freedom only limited by their imaginations.
Originally reported by Polygon, a group of TTRPG players will get together on Twitch to stream The Golden Girls RPG hosted by PixelCircus, with all benefits going to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Bee Zelda, of the TTRPG actual-play podcast The Broadswords, will be the gamemaster for four players: Mo Nuncio, Saige Ryan, Gina DeVivo, and Omar Najam. The stream will premiere on Betty White’s 100th birthday, Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 6:00 pm Pacific Time on PixelCircus’ Twitch channel. While there isn’t a TTRPG exactly designed for The Golden Girls, the players will be using a game called Lewd Grannies created by Joel Salda. The RPG focuses on a group of elderly women celebrating a wedding by letting loose and diving into their various vices.

While Betty White might not have been the first person that comes to mind when thinking of a tabletop RPG, this particular stream will likely be full of the exact kind of comedy that she became known for. In this TTRPG, the challenges won’t be to slay a mind flayer at the bottom of a dungeon, they will be more like trying to steal an enormous slice of wedding cake or finding a young lover without getting caught and sent home by your younger relative. relative. Nearly every TTRPG table has a legendary BBEG, or Big Bad Evil Guy, as the campaign-ending, character-killing boss monster, so it is funny to think of relatives at a wedding filling this role.
This stream will be a fun way for viewers to celebrate the life of a talented woman, support a charitable cause, and maybe discover that the term TTRPG doesn’t have to mean Dungeons & Dragons. It can also mean a more relatable setting, though likely one that could quickly turn chaotic. With the rules being just one page long, the RPG could be the perfect way to entice new gamers to the genre, and could also be ideal in introducing new players to TTRPGs like D&D. It is nice to know that Betty White’s memory will continue to live on, inspiring others to be creative and comedic, no matter what the situation.
