‘General Hospital’ Legend Brad Maule Returns as Dr. Tony Jones — and Fans Are Feeling the Nostalgia (Exclusive First Look)
An old friend is making his way back to Port Charles — and longtime General Hospital fans are in for an emotional treat.
Soap icon Brad Maule is set to reprise his beloved role as Dr. Tony Jones this November, and EW has your exclusive first look at his much-anticipated return.
Of course, viewers will remember that Tony died back in 2006 during the show’s infamous encephalitis epidemic — one of the most heartbreaking storylines in GH history. So yes, this return is bound to be… well, otherworldly. After all, in the soap world, death is rarely the end.

This special episode finds Tony’s adopted son Lucas (Ryan Carnes) facing emotional turmoil. When Lucas discovers that his birth father has been blackmailing his husband Brad (Parry Shen), he’s forced to confront a wave of pain and loss that’s never truly healed — especially the emptiness left by Tony’s absence. It’s the kind of moment that calls for guidance from someone who always understood him best. And that’s when Tony’s “visit” comes at just the right time.
The news of Maule’s return first slipped out earlier this month when Leslie Charleson, Maule’s longtime co-star, shared (and quickly deleted) a behind-the-scenes photo of the actor back on set. “Look who was on the show today! Brad Maule! So good to see my old pal!” she wrote, sending GH fans into a frenzy of speculation.
For nearly two decades, Maule’s portrayal of Tony Jones defined some of General Hospital’s most heartfelt and devastating moments — from his complicated marriage to Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) to his tragic final storyline that left viewers in tears. His return, even in ghostly form, promises to reignite that emotional connection and remind fans why Tony remains one of the most cherished characters in GH history.
Beyond General Hospital, Maule has been a familiar face across daytime television, appearing in Port Charles, Passions, and The Young and the Restless. But for fans, his heart — and his legacy — will always belong to Port Charles.
So mark your calendars, GH faithful: Brad Maule is back. And whether it’s a brief visit from beyond or a lasting presence, one thing’s for sure — this reunion is going to hit right in the feels.
