Chicago Med is Dick Wolf’s nail-biting medical drama in the One Chicago universe, alongside Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Needless to say, it’s never a dull day in the Windy City, and the hospital stays busy. Chicago Med focuses on the doctors and nurses of the emergency department of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, and fans never know what patient will be entering the ER next.
The Chicago Med cast boasts a star-studded lineup of powerhouse performers who know the exact way to pull on the heartstrings of all One Chicago fans. Below, see the current list of actors on Chicago Med.
Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin
At the helm of the Gaffney’s ship is S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, a the tough-as-nails Chief of Patient and Medical Services at Gaffney Medical. Goodwin got to her position of power thanks to years of tireless work within hospitals. Goodwin was the former ED Charge Nurse but now mainly handles the grueling business and media side of hospital administration. Her position often forces her to reconcile between what is legally correct and what is the ethical to approach patient diagnoses. Because of her previous experience, Sharon is extremely empathetic and protective of her fellow physicians.
Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles
While many medical dramas focus solely on the surgical side of hospital operations, Chicago Med also explores the mental health side of hospital life. Oliver Platt plays Dr. Daniel Charles, the Chief of Psychiatry at Gaffney Medical, and his performance never disappoints. Dr. Charles consistently challenges those who call themselves or other patients “crazy,” instead compelling others to understand that with enough understanding, a solution is always possible, regardless of the mental health issue. The world needs more physicians like Dr. Charles.
Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Campbell, RN
Marlyne Barrett plays the loveable E.R. nurse Maggie Campbell on Chicago Med. The doting yet no-nonsense ED Charge Nurse of Gaffney Medical is a miracle to the Windy City. Maggie has become a Chi-Hard fan favorite as the eyes, ears, and heart of Gaffney’s ED. Maggie is endlessly dedicated to her position and loyal to all the physicians around her. Even when the situation becomes chaotic, which they tend to do, Maggie can always be trusted to hold down the fort.
Dominic Rains as Dr. Crockett Marcel
Every medical drama needs at least one innovative physician to push the envelope, and Dominic Rains shines within his role as Dr. Crockett Marcel, a transplant surgeon at Chicago Med. Crockett is a skilled physician, but his overeager tendencies and lack of foresight can sometimes get him into trouble. Lately, Crockett has been the surgeon tasked with running the imperfect O.R. 2.0. suite, an A.I.-embracing operating suite that requires a reliable captain in command.
Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher
One Chicago sweetheart, Jessy Schram, plays Dr. Hannah Asher on Chicago Med, and fans have adored her since her Season 5 introduction. Hannah is a complex but lovable obstetrician-gynecologist and recovering addict at Gaffney Medical. After briefly leaving Chicago to admit herself to rehab, Hannah returned to Gaffney fully sober and eager to get back to work. Hannah never fails to go above and beyond for patients in need and is an infinite source of support to her fellow physicians.
Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer
Steven Weber plays Dr. Dean Archer, the Chief of the ED at Gaffney Medical. Archer is a no-nonsense physician with a complicated past of PTSD due to his time in the Navy. Archer’s brash attitude and refusal to compromise led him to be a headache for several of his colleagues during his introduction in Season 6 of Chicago Med, but over time, he’s chilled out around his coworkers. Lately, Dr. Archer has found himself in need of a kidney transplant after his health took a drastic turn in Season 8. His estranged son, Sean, is a viable match, so Chi-Hards have their fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
Devin Kawaoka as Dr. Kai Tanaka-Reed
Kai Tanaka-Reed, played by One Chicago newbie Devin Kawaoka, is a first-year surgical resident who immediately set his sights on establishing himself at Chicago Medical Center during his introduction in Season 8. Dr. Tanaka-Reed is abrasive and opinionated and often, causing him to butt heads with his supervisor, Dr. Marcel. Over time, Dr. Tanaka-Reed has started to learn to rely on his superiors and not let perfectionism cloud his ability to empathize with patients.
Lilah Richcreek Estrada as Nellie Cuevas
Dr. Charles met his new assistant in the Season 8 premiere with the introduction of Dr. Nellie Cuevas, played by Lilah Richcreek Estrada. While Dr. Charles is fairly old school in his therapy style, Dr. Cuevas represents the new wave in mental health treatment. While Dr. Charles and Dr. Cuevas often disagreed about how to treat patients, Nellie truly wanted to improve as a physician with each lesson learned.
