Everyone loves the bickering Quartermaines on General Hospital. The longtime residents of Port Charles have been at the center of conflict, humor, and plenty of drama for decades. It turns out that several members of the writing team on the hit primetime series, Will Trent, are also fans of Q.
So in last night’s April 15 episode (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. ET), the show centers on Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Rafael (Antwayn Hopper), who first met when Will was a foster child because Rafael’s grandmother (Marla Gibbs, ex-Jeffersons, ex-Days of our Lives) took him in and gave him the family he was looking for. So Will and Rafael are like brothers, even though Will is torn about helping Rafael now that he’s become a gang leader.
Everyone loves the squabbling Quartermaines on General Hospital. The longtime residents of Port Charles have been the center of conflict, humor, and a whole lot of drama for decades. It turns out that several members of the writing team on the hit primetime series, Will Trent, are also Q fans.
So in last night’s episode of Will Trent (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. ET) on April 15, the show focused on Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Rafael (Antwayn Hopper), who first met when Will was a foster child because Rafael’s grandmother (Marla Gibbs, former Jeffersons, former Days of our Lives cast member) adopted him and gave him the family he was looking for. As such, Will and Rafael are like brothers, although Will is torn between helping Rafael when he becomes a gang leader.
According to TV Insider, it was her death that brought Will and Rafael together and has a very emotional connection to General Hospital. Liz Heldens, (showrunner, Will Trent) explained, “We have a few GH fans on the writing team. I used to watch it with my grandmother quite often. We brought that idea into the first episode of the season and then doubled down on it in this episode.”
The outlet revealed, “This serious event triggers a revelation about Will and Rafael’s past that would make Port Charles proud.” The official synopsis for the episode reads, “When Rafael turns to Will after his grandmother’s sudden death, they are forced to confront their painful past while facing life-threatening dangers in the present.”
GH fans know that Anna Lee and David Lewis were the original mother and father of the Quartermaine family, with John Ingle eventually taking over the role. On GH, Lila Quartermaine passed away in 2004, while Edward Quartermaine passed away in 2012.
With General Hospital now in its 62nd year and Will Trent renewed for a fourth season, it shows the reach that the ABC soap opera has in popular culture, and how it has been passed down through generations, and made for some very touching moments in last night’s Will Trent episode.
Close watchers saw GH’s 2004 theme, “Faces of the Heart,” performed by Dave Koz, along with Will, Betty (Will’s dog), and former GH stars Tamara Braun as Carly and the late Leslie Charleson as Monica.
