A New Enemy Emerges: Yul Vázquez Joins Will Trent With Secrets to Uncover

Vazquez will make his debut in the penultimate episode of Season 3, set to air Tuesday, May 6 at 8/7c. The episode, directed by star Erika Christensen, introduces Sheriff Caleb, “a tough, handsome, fiercely stubborn hometown hero” who “uses his self-proclaimed status as constitutional sheriff to protect his community and has no patience for outside interference,” according to the official character breakdown. When Will and Faith “are sent in to assist with a high-profile case, Caleb makes it clear he doesn’t want their help” — that is, until the investigation takes a turn and he’s forced to reconsider.

There’s a new sheriff in town: TVLine can exclusively reveal that Will Trent has cast Yul Vazquez (Severance) in a recurring role that will likely be added to Season 4 of the ABC drama.

A promo for Season 3, Episode 17, embedded above, offers a glimpse of Caleb in action. It also tells us that he’s a “new enemy” who holds a “shocking secret,” but doesn’t reveal exactly what he’s keeping secret. (When we asked executive producers Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen if Caleb would be up for being the Big Bad, Heldens played coy, offering a one-word answer: “Maybe.”)

Vazquez’s extensive TV credits include Apple TV+’s Severance (where he reprises his role as former Macrodata tweaker Petey); HBO’s The Outsider, Treme, and White House Plumbers; MGM+’s Godfather of Harlem and Hotel Cocaine; NBC’s Midnight, Texas; and Starz’s Magic City. Shows include Runaway Bride, Bad Boys II, War of the Worlds, American Gangster, The A-Team, Captain Phillips, and The Infiltrator.

New episodes of Will Trent air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC (and stream the following day on Hulu). The series, which has been renewed for Season 4, concludes its 18-episode third season on May 13.
