An animated series set in the universe of “Twilight” is coming to Netflix, according to Tudum by Netflix. The series, titled “Midnight Sun,” is based on a 2020 novel by Stephenie Meyer of the same name, which tells the story of the first book of the “Twilight” series from the perspective of Edward Cullen. The novel sold over 1 million copies during the first week it was released, according to Publishers Weekly.
“Twilight” is a romantic series that features vampires and werewolves. The series has seven books in total (between the main books and companion novels) as well as five live-action movies.

The movie saga stars Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen (a vampire attending high school), Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan (a human high school girl) and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black (a werewolf). The series was created by Meyer, who was born in Hartford in 1973; however, she soon moved to Arizona, she told the literature site Cynsations.
The series’ executive producers will be Meyer, Meghan Hibbett (from Fickle Fish Films), Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen (Temple Hill Entertainment) and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey (Picturestart), according to Tudum by Netflix. Sinead Daly (known for “Tell Me Lies,” “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” and “Raised by Wolves”) will also serve as both an executive producer and writer.
While the animated series was first announced in 2024, an official release date has not been given. Meyer wrote on her website that fans will have to be “extremely patient” because creating the animation will take time and she aims for the series to be as “gorgeous” as it can be. In 2025, Netflix listed the series as an “exciting adaptation” to watch out for.
“I’m super excited to work with the amazing people at Netflix and to see the world of Twilight without any of the restraints of live action. I think we’re going to be able to make something truly beautiful,” Meyer wrote on her website.
