A ‘Psych’ Star Joins the Lineup of ‘Boston Blue’—Here’s What We Know

The inner circle of Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan is getting a little bit bigger today with the announcement of another character cast in Boston Blue. Deadline reports that Psych alum, Maggie Lawson, is set to join the Blue Bloods offshoot as Sarah Silver, the Superintendent of the Boston Police Department — which certainly sounds like she’ll be Danny’s new boss. The news of Lawson’s involvement comes shortly after two other iconic actors — Ernie Hudson and Sonequa Martin-Green — were announced to join ranks in the CBS procedural that’s due for its premiere in January.

Back in the original series, Wahlberg’s detective found himself as a member of a prominent law enforcement family, but this time around, he’ll be the odd man out. That family tree is expanding branch by branch, with the reveal that Lawson’s Sarah Silver is the stepsister to Martin-Green’s Detective Lena Silver, the latter of whom will also be Danny’s new partner in the line of duty. Lawson’s character is described as a woman who is dedicated to her job but oftentimes has a difficult time separating her work from her home life, which sometimes puts a strain on her family dynamics.

At the head of the Silver family is Hudson’s Reverend Peters, who leads one of the city’s historic Baptist churches in praise every week. Martin-Green’s Detective Lena Silver is his granddaughter and Lawson’s Superintendent Sarah Silver is his step-granddaughter. Two more pieces of the puzzle remain with the on-the-horizon casting of Reverend Peters’ daughter and Boston’s District Attorney, Mae Silver, and his other grandchild, rookie patrol cop, Isaac Silver.

Will Any ‘Blue Bloods’ Alums Appear in ‘Boston Blue’?

For now, no cameo or guest appearances from the familiar faces of Blue Bloods have been announced. But that doesn’t mean that the creative team doesn’t have something in mind — after all, New York and Boston are just a car or train ride away, leaving plenty of doors open for one of Danny’s family members to make their way North. The fan reaction to the cancellation of Blue Bloods alone should be enough of a reason to toss in a cameo here and there, so we’re holding onto hope right along with Wahlberg.

As for Lawson, she’ll fit right into the police environment of Boston Blue thanks to her long-running portrayal of Detective Juliet O’Hara on USA’s beloved series, Psych. The actress appeared in the show during its eight-season run and has gone on to reprise the role in the feature-length off-shoots.
