A returning villain has been spotted in new behind-the-scenes images from The Rookie Season 8.

Villains make the world go round. What is a good story without one, and thankfully, ABC’s The Rookie has a good story and several villains we all love to hate in equal measure. The show is currently in its off-season with filming on its upcoming eighth season currently ongoing and, with its premiere in 2026, will come the return of some of our most beloved characters. Season 7 ended with a couple of baddies getting loose of the cages that held them down. Matthew Glave’s Oscar Hutchinson and notorious villain, Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan), both sprang loose using two different methods. With production underway, one of them has been quite active online, continually pleading innocence, of course.

While the legal powerhouse, ADA Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore), has consistently been on the right side of the law. Monica Stevens is on the opposite aisle as the corrupt attorney has consistently been on the radar of law enforcement. Season 7 panned out as though she’d been put away for good only for Monica to leverage secrets stolen from an NSA facility to get herself an immunity deal. By the time the Season 7 finale had aired, she’d walked out a free woman. Of course, the nature of the ending did leave the audience with some questions. Is she alive or dead? What comes next in her pursuit? Ultimately, Regan has offered an answer to one question that might arise.

Taking to her Instagram account recently, Regan teased Monica haters while on set for The Rookie Season 8 production. In the short clip, Monica is wearing a black suit, with her gorgeous red hair looking blindingly brilliant, and she wears a cheeky smirk on her face. Overall, she looks lovely, and to cap it all off, she captions the post, saying: “An Innocent Woman Sips Her Matcha.”

Monica Is Sure To Test the Bounds of Legality Once More

Monica, for all intents and purposes, is a master manipulator who is skilled at always playing the “innocent” woman when she’s very far from that. She’s one of the best villains on the show and her story will continue into Season 8. Her re-emergence is not one that will sit well with FBI Agent Matt Garza (Felix Solis) or the team at the Mid-Wilshire station of the LAPD. Looking ahead to the new season, showrunner Alexi Hawley revealed that Monica’s release will be a source of frustration for John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his colleagues heading into the new season.

“I do think that it’s enraging and many other things to our cops who have been trying to get her for a full season now, and the fact that she’s now untouchable for her past crimes is really incredibly frustrating… I think heading into season eight, it’s going to be the frustration of the fact that she got away with it, and also, potentially, what are the aspects of the immunity deal that could give us story to tell, which I think is partly what we’re trying to figure out right now in the room.”
