ABC’s Spring 2025 network TV season has officially concluded, and with a bang. Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 21 finale ended with an explosion at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, while 9-1-1’s Season 8 finale saw the first responders tending to the residents of a collapsed building. Many fan-favorite shows will return in September for the Fall 2025 season, but for others, the wait will be much longer.
Sadly, The Rookie and Will Trent will not return until the Spring 2026 TV season, which will be a tough wait for fans after both ended their seasons on massive cliffhangers. The fate of Doctor Odyssey is still up in the air after its first season concluded with a two-part tsunami episode. With about four months until ABC’s regular shows return from their hiatus, let’s take a look at everything that will be airing this fall.
8. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 34
Tuesdays at 8:00 P.M. EST
As is per tradition every year on ABC, Dancing with the Stars will once again be airing this coming fall. For those who haven’t seen it yet, the dance competition show follows celebrities who are paired up with professional dancers to compete each week, with themed performances. The next season will kick off with many of the show’s returning dancers, as well as a new group of stars.
The cast for the upcoming season has yet to be revealed, but the official Dancing with the Stars Instagram account announced in April that Robert Irwin will be competing in Season 34. More information will be revealed about the upcoming season as it gets closer, but it will once again be taking up the Tuesday night slot that was occupied by Will Trent and The Rookie in the spring.
7. ‘High Potential’ Season 2
Tuesdays at 10:00 P.M. EST
After what will have been a six-month wait, High Potential will finally be returning for its second season in the fall. The series follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), a High Potential Intellectual individual who was once a night cleaner for the LAPD, but who now works as a consultant for the Major Crimes division. Alongside her partner, Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), Morgan takes another look at seemingly unsolvable cases in order to find the killers.
The first season of High Potential ended with a number of shocking reveals and wild cliffhangers that will likely be the main focus of the Season 2 premiere. This includes the answer to a mystery that’s been hanging over the show since its pilot episode, as well as the introduction of a new villain. High Potential will be airing on Tuesday nights at 10:00 P.M. EST like it did last fall, which will be an hour later than it aired in the spring.
6. ‘Shifting Gears’ Season 2
Wednesdays at 8:00 P.M. EST
ABC’s newest sitcom, Shifting Gears, will be returning for a second season in its same slot this coming fall. The series follows the unconventional Parker family. Matt (Tim Allen), who repairs cars for a living, has been living on his own since his wife died. His daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), and Riley’s two kids, Carter (Maxwell Simkins) and Georgia (Barrett Margolis), suddenly move in with Matt when they need a place to live.
Season 1 of Shifting Gears focused on the clash between Matt and Riley as they re-entered each other’s lives, and her children finally got to know their grandfather. Shifting Gears Season 2 will continue to focus on the Parkers’ new living arrangement, as well as each of their love lives, and the new developments in Riley’s kids’ lives at school. Now that The Conners has ended, Shifting Gears will be one of just two sitcoms airing on ABC in the fall.
5. ‘Abbott Elementary’ Season 5
Wednesdays at 8:30 P.M. EST
After four fantastic seasons, Abbott Elementary will be returning for a fifth this fall in its same Wednesday night slot as this past spring. The series focuses on the faculty and staff of Abbott Elementary School, as they work to teach their students in spite of budget struggles and other obstacles. The show’s fourth season escalated the comedy with episodes that centered on a ring worm outbreak, and Ava (Janelle James) blackmailing a local country club for supplies.
This coming season will continue to focus on Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory’s relationship, and will hopefully show them growing even stronger, in spite of Gregory’s potential concerns after the Season 4 finale. Thankfully, Ava is now back at Abbott, although the teachers no longer seem to have access to the same resources that they were getting from the golf course last season, which may be a plot point in Season 5. There are also multiple new love interests for several of the main characters, who will likely appear in Season 3.
4. ‘The Golden Bachelor’ Season 2
Wednesdays at 9:00 P.M. EST
The Bachelor franchise has had a number of spin-offs now, including the failed Bachelor Pad, and the much more successful Bachelor in Paradise. ABC’s newest spin-offs are The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette, and the former will be returning this coming fall for its second season. It will be led by Mel Owens, a former NFL player and current lawyer.
Owens did not previously compete on The Golden Bachelorette, and will be new to the franchise, which is rare for the show’s leads. This will likely make for an unexpected season, and probably a number of football-themed entrances on the contestants’ first night. Unlike most Bachelor franchise shows, The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesday nights, and will be airing after ABC’s weekly sitcom line-up.
3. ‘9-1-1’ Season 9
Thursdays at 8:00 P.M. EST
This coming fall, 9-1-1 will be returning to ABC for its third season on the network, and its ninth season overall. The series follows a group of first responders in Los Angeles, from dispatch, to the LAFD, to the LAPD. The show’s eighth season saw the characters starting to get back into their old rhythm again after a big shake-up at the 118, until the heartbreaking and controversial death of its main character, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), towards the end of the season.
With four months until Season 9, many of 9-1-1’s storylines are up in the air after that major twist, and there’s no telling what the show has planned for this upcoming season. As of the Season 8 finale, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) baby has been born, but a number of the season’s storylines were derailed due to Bobby’s death. Season 9 will likely continue to focus on the characters’ grief, even after the time jump that occurred in the montage at the end of the finale.
2. ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Season 1
Thursdays at 9:00 P.M. EST
Not long after the conclusion of 9-1-1’s first spin-off, 9-1-1: Lone Star, comes its second spin-off, 9-1-1: Nashville. Like the two 9-1-1 shows before it, the series will continue to focus on a group of first responders, with episodes that are framed by 9-1-1 calls. So far, there are four stars confirmed for the show. It will star Chris O’Donnell as firefighting Captain Don Sharpe, with Jessica Capshaw as his wife.
The rest of 9-1-1: Nashville’s cast is yet to be confirmed, but so far, it includes LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Most of the first season is a mystery, but it has already been hinted at that there will likely be a crossover at some point between 9-1-1: Nashville and the original 9-1-1. The shows will be airing back-to-back each week on Thursday nights.
1. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22
Thursdays at 10:00 P.M. EST
After 20 years and 21 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy will once again return for another installment this fall. Ellen Pompeo continues to narrate each episode, although Meredith (Pompeo) has been living in Boston for the past few seasons with Nick (Scott Speedman) and her kids. In her absence, the show follows the lives of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, which ended its twenty-first season with a dangerous explosion.
Grey’s Anatomy will stick to its usual Thursday night slot in the fall, and will air after the two 9-1-1 shows. The Season 22 premiere will deal with the aftermath of the explosion set by Jenna (Piper Perabo), a terrified mother who believed that the tank she was using for leverage was empty. There will likely be at least one casualty after the explosion, and even aside from this, Grey’s Anatomy has a number of intense storylines that will be continuing over into Season 22.
