Taylor Sheridan has gained considerable notoriety for his contributions to TV, with a distinctive style that captivates audiences. However, there are other shows with a similar vibe. While Sheridan is a spectacular storyteller in his own right, his shows also benefit from the sensational talent that comes on board to make it a reality.

This is certainly the case in one of his latest releases, Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, which features incredibly talented actors and a compelling story that takes the audience on a journey. Interestingly, the show bears some similarities to another series from Prime Video that captures a similar style and tension throughout.

What Is Goliath About?

At the core of the story, Goliath is a show about a struggling former lawyer who is haunted by his past and struggling to find a way to move forward. Having gotten a murderer acquitted, and then learning about the brutal killing of an entire family by that same man, Billy McBride becomes an alcoholic to cope with his mistake.

However, when he finds an opportunity that could lead to him being redeemed, or at the very least, bringing down the law firm that expelled him in his time of need, he begins to take steps to change his future and move beyond his past.

Billy Bob Thornton Is The Driving Force Of Goliath

Playing the lead role of Billy McBride, Billy Bob Thornton delivers a career-defining performance as he explores the full range of human emotion and depicts a man who must exercise otherworldly strength and resilience to find his way back to being whole and well once again.

Thornton is an exceptional actor who takes this role and makes it his own. And while there are some big names in the series that step into large roles, Thornton is at the heart of the show, ensuring the audience is gripped from beginning to end.

How Goliath Is Different From Landman

Now, on the face of it, these shows are very different. For one, Landman is set in West Texas, and sees Thornton play a highly successful lawyer working for a company that is amassing billions of dollars in oil profits. Rather than butting heads with former colleagues or overcoming a personal addiction, this character is part of the corrupt system.

On the other hand, Goliath follows a man who has left his evil ways behind and is now seeking redemption. The power dynamics are certainly different, with Thornton playing characters on opposite sides of that powerful entity of a law firm, and the characters are in different phases of life, but Thornton’s performance in both Goliath and Landman makes them an absolute must-watch.
