After Season 4 Renewal, Will Trent Star Drops Exciting Hint About What’s Next

It’s been a while since the Will Trent season 3 finale aired on ABC, and we still don’t know how the season ends. The cop drama is known for its shocking endings, but this one took things to the next level. Not one, but two fan-favorite characters were put in dangerous situations. Now, fans are eager to see how those twists will play out in the upcoming season 4 and whether their favorite characters will be okay.

Adding to the excitement, Will Trent star Ramón Rodríguez recently gave an encouraging update on the show’s future after season 4, hinting that there could be more to come. Rodríguez is best known for his starring role as Will Trent, a GBI agent who solves complex cases. He is also an executive producer on the film, meaning he has a key role not only in front of the camera but also behind the scenes. In a recent interview with Variety, he briefly discussed the experience of working with Will Trent, the opportunity to step away from television to do some film work, and the future of the hit cop drama now.

Rodríguez most recently starred in Prime Video’s action thriller G20, which stars Viola Davis as the president of the United States who must rely on her skills and experience in leadership and military affairs to navigate a deadly terrorist takeover. Rodríguez plays the President’s loyal bodyguard. He explained to Variety that he enjoyed the experience of learning and practicing weapons and martial arts training while working on the film. It reignited his passion for taking on more challenging and interesting roles.

“I want roles that are exciting, engaging, whether they’re dramatic or action-packed.”

Don’t think that means he’ll be leaving Will Trent anytime soon, though. Rodríguez has made it clear that he remains deeply committed to the show as long as the stories it tells remain fresh and interesting. He believes that if the creative team stops feeling excited or passionate about the show, then they shouldn’t continue making the show just for the sake of it. Fortunately, for now, he says that everyone involved remains very motivated and excited to create the series.

“If we weren’t excited anymore, we wouldn’t be doing it. Luckily, so far, everyone is really excited to create.”

Will Trent has only just been renewed for a fourth season, so the long-term future of the show is uncertain. However, with high viewership, critical acclaim, and a loyal fan base, it’s likely that the adventures of GBI agent Will Trent will last well beyond season 4. From Rodríguez’s comments, it’s clear that the creative team is fully committed to continuing the series, so fans can rest easy on that front. Now, it’s just a matter of ABC greenlighting more seasons. Hopefully!

Will Trent season 4 has been confirmed to premiere on ABC in early 2026.
