NBC has renewed The Hunting Party for a second season, despite its poor Rotten Tomatoes score. The series wasn’t exactly a hit among critics in its first season. As of the writing of this article, the show’s Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 18% (not much of an improvement from its initial rating). The Hunting Party debuted with a rare 0% RT score, but against all odds, it’s set to return for season 2 on NBC. Perhaps its conflicting Popcornmeter (83%) on the review-aggregation website was enough to convince the network to order a second season.
The Hunting Party, starring Melissa Roxburgh as an FBI profiler, premiered in January 2025, with its first season consisting of 10 episodes and ending in April. Roxburgh’s Bex leads an elite team of investigators searching for escaped inmates following a mysterious explosion at a top-secret prison (The Pit). Now, the NBC procedural crime drama series is set to return for a second season in the fall of 2025, in a new report from TVLine. And after the season 1 finale cliffhanger, the confirmation that The Hunting Party will continue is quite a relief.
What The Hunting Party’s Renewal Means For Season 2
Will Odell Survive?
During its season 1 finale, The Hunting Party may have killed off one of its main characters, which is why its season 2 renewal is so important for the show. The team searched for serial killer Jenna Wells (played by Eliza Coupe) in the last episode. Although “Jenna Wells” initially makes viewers concerned about Hassani, who got shot, his brush with death is simply a red herring. In the finale’s last few moments, Shane shot and killed Jenna, but not before she could hit Odell with one of her deadly cyanide patches.
The patch caused Odell to start bleeding from the nose, and he collapsed in Bex’s arms. So, the season 1 finale of The Hunting Party ended with Bex holding a dying Odell, while Shane ran for help. If NBC hadn’t renewed the procedural crime drama, we would never have learned Odell’s fate (and what the future holds for him and Bex if he survives). Thankfully, that isn’t the case, and fans can rest assured that their questions will be answered in The Hunting Party season 2.
Our Take On The Hunting Party’s Renewal
NBC Has Faith That The Crime Drama Show Can Succeed
The Hunting Party managed to survive NBC’s slew of cancelations in May 2025 (which included Suits LA and Found), and seemingly for good reason. Its first season averaged 4.2 million viewers, ranking eighth out of NBC’s 11 dramas. Plus, the series has been a hit among fans, as proven by its impressive Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s clear that the network has faith in The Hunting Party, otherwise its first season likely wouldn’t have ended with a cliffhanger and NBC wouldn’t have renewed it for a second season.
