Special Agent Devin Rountree, portrayed by Caleb Castille, was introduced to audiences in the Season 11 premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles. Quickly becoming a fan favorite, Rountree has shared screen space with key characters like G Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J), and Fatima Zamazi (Medalion Rahimi). However, recent episodes have seen a notable absence of Rountree, prompting fans to question his status on the show.
What happened to Agent Rountree on NCIS: Los Angeles? Is Caleb Castille leaving the show?
Fans need not worry—Agent Rountree has not exited the series. Although Caleb Castille has been missing from recent episodes, he is still very much part of the show. Speculation about his departure began after Castille posted a seemingly cryptic message on Instagram, which led to rumors of his exit. In the comment section of Daniela Ruah’s (Kensi Blye) thank you post after the Season 12 finale, Castille wrote, “Gonna miss you,” sparking concern among fans.
To clarify, Castille addressed these rumors by explaining that he was simply taking a short break. It’s not unusual for actors on the show to be absent for a while, only to return later as the writers develop new storylines or as the actors work on other projects. Castille confirmed that Rountree’s absence was just a brief hiatus.
On March 6, Castille tweeted, “We hope you guys enjoyed tonight’s new episode!! I also appreciate the love you guys have shown Rountree. He’ll be back from vacation soo tanned and ready for action!!” This update reassured fans that Rountree’s absence was temporary.
Additionally, Castille shared a photo on Instagram on March 5, featuring him with a red sports car, teasing, “It ain’t even emergency and we bout to pull up in a 911. New eps on the way!! #ncisla.”
Fans can look forward to seeing Rountree return in Episode 11, which is set to air on March 13.
