Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) finally made it back to Salem on the Aug. 4 episode of Days of Our Lives, but something major had changed in her absence: Her stepdad John (Drake Hogestyn) had passed away. After missing the funeral due to caring for her younger daughter Sydney, Sami came home to grieve with her mother Marlena (Deidre Hall). This episode gave Sweeney the chance to mourn Hogestyn, her beloved co-star.

So many feelings about today’s episode of @dayspeacock – I know you all have been going through it too. ❤️ We all have such special memories of Drake. Filming these scenes with Dee, being in ‘John & Marlena’s townhouse’ set again, really brought it home for me. The number one thing I think now is how lucky I was to have known Drake, worked with him, and learned from him. I am so grateful to be a part of his Days family. ⌛️
