Chicago Fire looks a lot different in 2024 than it did a decade earlier. Firefighters have died, fallen victim to personal tragedy, or simply decided that the Windy City wasn’t for them. Such is life. The changes have been more pronounced in recent years, though, due to how many cast changes there have been.
As we head into season 13, it’s worth taking a step back and taking stock of where everybody is at. There’s been some confusion regarding Firehouse 51 promotions, especially with the recent exit of Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker), so we decided to lay out the current roster of the firehouse, and what could change as the upcoming season unfolds.
Firehouse 51 is broken into five primary units. There’s Engine 51, Truck 81, Rescue Squad 3, Ambulance 61 and Battalion 25. Each of these units focuses on a different aspect of the first responder process, i.e. medical care, firefighting, emergency rescue and so forth.
The commanding officer for Engine 51 is Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg). The veteran firefighter has held down the position for several years, though the season 12 finale made it seem as though he’s be making the move up to Firehouse Chief. Boden offered him the job, but Deadline has since stated that a new character will be brought in to assume Chief duties.
Truck 81, meanwhile, is commanded by Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). She has had a shorter stint in charge than Herrmann, naturally, but she’s proven herself to be a natural leader, and someone that has made good on Boden’s decision to promote her. Kidd’s position also makes her part of 51’s resident power couple with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).
Severide is the commanding officer for Rescue Squad 3. He’s a preternaturally gifted firefighter and arguably the most heroic member of Firehouse 51, as evidenced by the season 12 episode in which he fought off firetruck hijackers. Severide was the interim Chief while Boden was on leave, but it does not appear as though he was considered for the job long term. Not yet, at least.
Ambulance 61 does not technically have a commanding officer, but it does have a paramedic in charge, or PIC, and that person is Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith). She was promoted to the role after Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) left, and has proven to have the necessary chops.
Battalion 25 is headed by the Firehouse Chief, which used to be Boden. Now, however, the mantle will be handed to newcomer Dom Pascal. The character hails from Florida, and Deadline described him as “cheerful” and “able to handle pressure.” We can’t wait to see how Pascal meshes with the characters we know and love.
