‘always Grey’s family’ – Grey’s Anatomy showrunner addresses cast changes as two stars exit in season 21
Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis has finally spoken about the upcoming departures of two of the show’s stars, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis, who play Levi and Yasuda, in season 21. Fans have known about the exits for a while, but Marinis has now opened up about the cast changes in fresh interviews following the season premiere.
Marinis talked about the long-standing series and the shifts within the cast, including the looming departures of Borelli and Francis, whose storylines are expected to wrap up in the coming episodes. While Francis’ exit was reportedly “amicable” as she seeks to progress her career, Borelli’s departure may not have been his choice, having been a part of the show since season 14, according to the Express.
In a chat with Deadline, Marinis expressed her contentment with how the show is managing the characters’ exits, stating: “While I can’t speak to either of their storylines this season because of spoilers, what I can say is that I’m really happy with the way we’re honoring the characters we’ve built over the years this season.”She also commended Borelli and Francis, saying: “Jake and Midori are fantastic actors and will always be part of the Grey’s Anatomy family. And because of the longevity and power of this show, we all know – if you’re part of the Grey’s family, you’re always part of the family and possibly can come and go through the years,” reports the Mirror.
During her conversation with The Wrap, she expressed: “I don’t want to share anything particular about their upcoming storylines for spoiler purposes, but what I can say is that these characters are rich, stellar characters, and they will not get an exit that’s not deserving of their character. We’re going to honour where they started and where they are now.
“Also, they’re important members of our Grey’s family. “”Once you’re family, you’re always family. We’ve seen in 21 years that people can come and go here.”
