Angie Spirals After Tragic Loss on Will Trent — Here’s What Could Happen Next

At the end of Tuesday’s Will Trent, Detective Polaski ordered a whiskey to drown her sorrows. She’d just paid a visit to her comatose mother, and laid there beside her as she flatlined.

Angie, of course, had conflicting feelings about Mom — a woman who, as we first learned in Season 1 and were again reminded in several flashbacks this week, pimped her out from the age of 5 in order to fund her vices.
When I spoke to executive producers Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen at the start of Season 3, I asked if Angie would struggle with her sobriety — especially after the one-two punch of Crystal’s death and Will torpedoing their relationship.

At the time, Heldens answered, “We talk about it a lot, and I think this season there might be a reason why that happens, although I’m not certain yet.” But she also explained why the events at the end of Season 2 would not ultimately lead Angie back to alcohol or drugs.

“It seemed [more] interesting to me, after a lot of discussion, to have her not fall off the wagon,” the EP said — and in the premiere, Angie herself spelled out why. She told Ormewood that she only ever got drank or high to forget things, and she didn’t want to forget about Crystal.

But Heldens and Thomsen had “talked about what would push her to the edge,” and now we know what they had in mind.

Angie once said that she knows what it’s like to want the love of a terrible person. Now she’s going to do her very best to bury that want, seems in the most self-destructive way possible. This, in turn, leads to a number of questions.

For starters, Angie will be boyfriend Seth, a fellow addict with eight years of sobriety under his belt, be able to help her through this? And if not, will she turn to ex-boyfriend Will? Leave a comment and let us know what you think will happen next.
