Looks like another familiar face is headed to Boston. A Blue Bloods alum is set to join Donnie Wahlberg on his spinoff Boston Blue.
While fans wait in anticipation for Tom Selleck to join the cast, Wahlberg confirmed that we’re going to be seeing more of the Reagan clan on the show. Specifically, Henry Reagan, aka “Grandpa Reagan,” is guest-starring on the show. Fans will also see more of Erin Reagan as well.
At a Television Critics Association panel, Wahlberg confirmed that Len Cariou will guest star in an upcoming episode. He also confirmed that Bridget Moynahan will be back after appearing in the pilot. Grandpa Reagan will be in episode 13. Meanwhile, Erin will reappear in episode 17.
“Grandpa Reagan’s going to be showing up, and Erin’s going to show up again,” Wahlberg told reporters. The actor also teased that Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez is set to have an emotional arc. The show will focus on her relationship with Danny Reagan. “I think there are layers to all this still… I’m not going to reveal too much… I will just tell you that it’s not resolved, and she will be back in the coming episodes.”
Of course, the one actor fans want more than anyone is Selleck. But Wahlberg doesn’t have any news there outside the fact that Selleck is supportive.
“Of course, I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do,” Wahlberg told Parade, in an October interview. “And I can’t really get into the details of those conversations, but he’s been very supportive. I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes.”
But supportive doesn’t mean you’ll see the Blue Bloods actor reprise his role on the spinoff. Selleck cast down on appearing in the spinoff, apparently still bitter with the original show getting canceled.
“I don’t know if I would do Boston Blue — that’s another show,” Selleck told Hour Detroit. “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure Blue Bloods has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”
