Who is the father of Dr. Hannah Asher’s (Jessy Schram) baby? That’s the big mystery going into Chicago Med Season 11. Could it be her on-off boyfriend, Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell), or could it be her coworker and close friend, Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber)? Showrunner Allen MacDonald calls it “complicated” in a new interview. When we left the Chicago Med world after the Season 10 finale, Hannah had discovered that she was pregnant but wasn’t sure who the father was, and there was no way for the audience to say it was one or the other definitively. Whoever it is, things are bound to get more complicated.
The show hinted at a potential romantic pairing between Ripley and Sadie (Holly Curran), the woman he saved from the well. Fresh off a rocky relationship, Sadie might be what Ripley needs. When she showed up at his door, he was surprised, and that surprise might be a pleasant one going into Season 11. MacDonald explained, saying:
“I think after meeting in the well episode, Ripley and Sadie did a lot of thinking about reaching out to each other. I think Ripley avoided it because you can’t assume a bond forged in a heightened traumatic situation will make a great relationship — please see the 1994 movie Speed as an example I think Sadie worried about the same thing but finally said to herself, ‘I felt something real and I can’t just leave that on the table.’ So she showed up at Ripley’s door… and I think going into Season 11, Ripley’s really glad she did.”
Asher’s Pregnancy Complicates a Lot of Things In ‘Chicago Med’ Season 11
None of the men is exactly an excellent option for Asher. Ripley is Ripley even without the prospect of another love interest, and Archer’s Archer, even with the potential lack of romantic feelings between him and Asher. “When it is finally revealed who the father of Hannah’s baby is, those two are going to have to really work it out how they’re going to move forward,” MacDonald previously said after Season 10 wrapped up. Additionally, Asher will have to deal with the potential problems that arise from being unable to help her sister as a surrogate. It’s a lot on Asher’s plate even when she’s not saving lives.
