Season 8 of S.W.A.T. will have 22 new episodes and star and be produced by Shemar, 53, according to Deadline.

He plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, Los Angeles S.W.A.T. lieutenant, that leads skilled units in the community that he grew up in.

The network initially decided to end the show with Season 7, to many fans’ dismays.

Although a premiere date has not be announced it is set for the 2024-2025 season.

CBS asked Sony Pictures for a license fee reduction this week, in hopes of bringing the show back for one more season.

And after much negotiation, they agreed.

The news of renewal comes just one year after CBS decided to end S.W.A.T. after six seasons, but then reversed their decision days later, making the seventh its final season – until now.

Season 7 is still airing with the season finale being wrapped in a few weeks, according to sources for Deadline.

Fans watched the show continuously on CBS and Paramount+.

S.W.A.T. is in the top 20 primetime broadcast dramas, ranking 17 overall.

The show got a rating of 6.1 million in Nielsen Most Current data and delivers 8.8 million viewers per episode, which is up 11 percent from last season.

Through its deal with Sony, S.W.A.T. has remained one of the highest ranking shows internationally.

The president of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, spoke with Deadline about the drama’s renewal.

“Here at CBS, we always ‘stay liquid’ and love a good dramatic twist, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.!” she said.

“The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers and producers who keep the show relevant and action-packed.”

“We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at Sony, CBS Studios and Shemar for working so closely with us to bring it back for next season,” Amy ended.

SHEMAR’S THE MAN!

S.W.A.T. fans were ecstatic to hear that their favorite show is returning after all.

Many of them reacted to the renewal news on social media, thanking Shemar for saving the show.
