Back in Command: Eamonn Walker Makes Powerful Return to Chicago Fire

Everybody’s favorite fire chief is headed back to Chicago. Well, everyone’s favorite except, perhaps, current fire chief Dom Pascal (played by Dermot Mulroney). That’s right, after his departure from Chicago Fire back in 2024, actor Eamonn Walker will be returning to the show to portray the character he embodied for twelve seasons: Wallace Boden. But don’t get too excited — he’s not coming back in a full-time capacity.

In new reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed by showrunner Andrea Newman that the newly-promoted First Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden will appear in an upcoming episode of the beloved Dick Wolf procedural. After not appearing in the recent mega-crossover event that took place on the Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. television shows, fans wondered if they would ever see Boden again. And now we finally have more details about his temporary return.

‘Chicago Fire’ Episode Will Feature A “Unique Format” In Order To Include Walker’s Boden
“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back,” explained Newman, adding that “the episode, titled ‘Post-Mortem,’ is a thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before. Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”

Newman has not been shy in her praise of Walker, and has hinted at his return in previous interviews. In an earlier conversation with THR, the showrunner explained that Boden was “a part of our world, still.”
