Because It’s Just So Iconic, Here Are The Main Cast Members Of “Titanic” In The Film Vs. Now

Come on guys – we all know it, we all love it. It’s time to talk about Titanic, given that the 25th anniversary is upon us!
The movie that gave us one of the most enduring love stories in film history, made huge stars out of its principal cast, gave us the mega-hit “My Heart Will Go On”, and propelled the real-life Titanic tragedy to the forefront of public consciousness forever – this movie cannot be overstated! Oh, and it made a shit-ton of money too.
There aren’t many souls in this world that ~don’t~ know this film, and so, for the 25th anniversary of its theatrical release, we thought we’d look at the main cast of the film to see how far they’ve come…

Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater

Y’all know Kate. Since starring in the 1997 film, her career has known no bounds. She’s starred in period pieces like Finding Neverland and Iris, rom-coms like The Holiday, indie type movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and more romantic dramas like Revolutionary Road (also starring her Titanic co-star Leo) and The Reader, for which she won a Best Actress Oscar.

Recently, Kate appeared as the lead in the HBO series Mare of Easttown, and re-united with Titanic director James Cameron in the sci-fi epic, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Gloria Stuart as Rose Dawson Calvert

I think we all remember elderly Rose delivering her iconic “84 years” line to the crew excavating the Titanic at the beginning of the movie. As you can imagine, Gloria had a long and illustrious career prior to the 1997 feature, starring in Old Hollywood movies like The Invisible Man and Poor Little Rich Girl, as well as some theatre work and a career as an artist and amateur chef!

After Titanic, she penned a memoir entitled I Just Kept Hoping, guest-starred in General Hospital and The Invisible Man TV series, and appeared in the movies The Love Letter and Land of Plenty. She was featured in numerous documentaries about Titanic, as well as a great many other topics. Gloria died in 2010 at the age of 100.

Frances Fisher as Ruth DeWitt Bukater

Outside of Titanic, in which she plays Rose’s snooty mother, Frances is probably best known for her TV work, having had a background in soap operas before ’97. She appeared in Becker, Titus, Eureka, Resurrection, and Fargo in main roles, and has guest-starred in everything from ER to Torchwood. Frances has also appeared in movies such as House of Sand and Fog, True Crime, Laws of Attraction, The Kingdom, The Host, Woman in Gold, and Holidate.

Bill Paxton as Brock Lovett

Brock leads the team who are looking for the “Heart of the Ocean” in the wreck of the Titanic. Already a star, after ’97, Bill went on to appear in several other high profile movies including Mighty Joe Young, Thunderbirds, Edge of Tomorrow, Nightcrawler, and The Circle. He is best know in the TV world for playing the lead in HBO’s Big Love, as well as for appearing in Hatfields & McCoys, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Training Day. Bill passed away in 2017 at the age of 61.

Billy Zane as Caledon Hockley

Billy played this character so well because I truly hated this guy! After Titanic, he moved on to star in several entires in the Sniper film series, cameo’d in the Zoolander movies, and also made waves for his role as Curtis Zampf in The Believer. His work in television has involved starring roles in Twin Peaks and Charmed, and smaller parts in Samantha Who?, Community, and The Boys. Billy is also an abstract expressionist painter, and has had his work featured in both solo and group exhibitions.

He was also the voice of John Rolfe in Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World – who knew???

David Warner as Spicer Lovejoy

Lovejoy is Cal’s valet and bodyguard who is often seen stalking Rose and Jack around the ship. David’s proflic career includes theatre (Hamlet, Twelfth Night, Major Barbara on Broadway), television (Penny Dreadful, Doctor Who, League of Gentlemen, Wallander, Mad Dogs) and, of course, film (Scream 2, Mary Poppins Returns, Planet of the Apes, Before I Sleep). He passed away last year at the age of 80.
