Behind the Laughter: Raegan Revord Reflects on Filming Through Trauma

It’s strange how life can shift in a split second.

I was on my way to set with my mom — just another workday — when we were suddenly t-boned by a drunk driver. The crash was terrifying. I still remember the sound of the impact, the airbags exploding, the feeling of everything spinning out of control. In that moment, I wasn’t thinking about filming or anything else. I was just scared. Really scared.

What followed were weeks of panic attacks and PTSD. I couldn’t sleep. My heart would race just being near a car. It felt like my body was stuck in that moment, replaying it over and over. And the irony? The episode we were shooting had Missy in a car for most of it. Of course. Life has a dark sense of humor sometimes.

When I read the script for the episode, I had originally been so excited. Missy goes on the run with her friend Paige, and it was such a fun storyline — one I couldn’t wait to film. But after the accident, stepping onto set and into a vehicle again felt impossible. My body didn’t care that it was just acting. It felt real. Too real.

But what got me through was love. Truly.

Missy (Raegan Revord) in a grey sweatshirt leans over the table as Paige (McKenna Grace) wears a plaid shirt and stares at her friend in an episode of "Young Sheldon"

The Young Sheldon cast and crew became my rock. Every single person — from the camera operators to the directors, the makeup artists, and especially my co-stars — showed up for me in a way I’ll never forget. They didn’t treat me like I was being dramatic or a problem. They saw that I was hurting and made it clear: You come first. Not the schedule. Not the show. You.

That kind of support? It changes you. It gave me the space to breathe, to take it moment by moment, and eventually to find my strength again.

And I can’t talk about this without mentioning McKenna Grace — my real-life friend and partner in this episode. She didn’t just show up as an actress. She showed up as a friend. She held space for me on and off camera, helped me laugh again, and reminded me I wasn’t alone. Love you, Kenny.

Looking back, I still feel emotional. The episode aired, people laughed, and maybe no one realized just how hard it was behind the scenes. But now you know. I hope this reminds someone out there that even when you’re scared, even when it feels too heavy, you can still find light — through people who love you, through the work you love, and through your own quiet courage.

Thank you to everyone who supported me. And to our fans: I hope you enjoyed the episode. It came from a place of pain, yes — but also from healing, and from so much love.

Raegan 💛
