Black-ish Alum Joins Cast of Boston Blue, the Blue Bloods Spinoff

The Blue Bloods spinoff show Boston Blue continues to grow its cast list with the addition of a Black-ish star. The show will be headed up by Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan, who has moved from the NYPD to Boston PD, where he is partnered with Lena Silver, the daughter of a noted police family in the city. The show has started to flesh out its cast list, with Gloria Reuben recently added in the role of matriarch Mae Silver, and another series regular has now joined the cast of Boston Blue.

Per Variety, the show is expanding its cast list with the addition of Black-ish star Marcus Scribner in a series regular role, playing the part of Jonah Silver, the youngest member of the Silver family, headed up by Gloria Reuben’s matriarch Mae. The official character description for Jonah states that he is “…in law enforcement like his mother and sisters… Always the cool kid growing up, Jonah carries himself with confidence and swagger in all situations, so he’s naturally frustrated at being a rookie cop on the sidelines of the city’s biggest investigations.”

What This Means For Boston Blue
The Show Is Fleshing Out Its Cast With Some Interesting Talent

Boston Blue has a big act to follow when it comes to following up Blue Bloods, and one of the key elements it needs to get right is the casting. Blue Bloods had a strong ensemble cast, and Boston Blue is wasting no time assembling its own talent, with Scribner coming in off the back of his acclaimed role as Junior in Black-ish, as well as its spinoff Grown-ish. He will bring a strong aura to the character of Jonah, who seems like he will be a larger-than-life addition to the show.

It’s pretty clear that the Silver Family is going to play a prominent part in any Boston Blue storyline, and this could ensure that Scribner enjoys a long-term role in the show. Being able to weave a complex and compelling narrative, complete with engaging character arcs relies on a strong core cast, and this is one of the things that made Blue Bloods so successful. Scribner is a fine addition to the show, and there will be hopes that he has strong chemistry with the rest of the confirmed cast.

Our Take On Scribner’s Boston Blue Casting
The Rising Star Is Branching Out Into More Dramatic Roles

Scribner made his name as a sitcom star, but it seems he is looking to branch out into more serious, dramatic roles, and a procedural like Boston Blue provides him the perfect opportunity to do this. While the show may not span the multiple seasons of Blue Bloods, there is cause for optimism that Boston Blue can hit the ground running, and Scribner will be a big part of this. Pushing himself as an actor will be exciting, and casting against type can often work very well, so it will be interesting to see how Scribner plays the character.
