After 14 successful seasons, the iconic crime drama “Blue Bloods” officially concluded in December 2024. However, fans won’t have to wait long to continue following the Reagan family’s journey, as CBS has just announced a new spinoff titled “Boston Blue”, set to premiere in the fall of 2025.
“Boston Blue”: Danny Reagan’s New Journey
In “Boston Blue,” Donnie Wahlberg will reprise his role as Detective Danny Reagan, who has now transferred from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department. There, he teams up with Lena Silver (formerly Lena Peters), a skilled detective and the eldest daughter of a prominent police family in Boston, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green. The dynamic between Danny, a quintessential New Yorker, and Lena promises intriguing cultural clashes and captivating cases.
Keeping the Reagan Family Spirit Alive
Despite the change of setting to Boston, Wahlberg assures that “Boston Blue” will maintain the Reagan family spirit that made “Blue Bloods” beloved. He shared, “Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family’s. You can’t have Danny without the Reagans. There’ll be connective tissue to the old family. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories.”
Production and Broadcast Details
“Boston Blue” is developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, with Jerry Bruckheimer and Donnie Wahlberg serving as producers. Initially pitched as “Jamaica Plain,” CBS restructured the concept as a direct continuation of “Blue Bloods” to keep the brand alive. The series will air on Fridays at 10 PM, the same time slot as its predecessor.
Anticipation from Fans
CBS’s decision to extend the “Blue Bloods” universe through “Boston Blue” highlights the ongoing appeal of familiar television brands. Fans can look forward to fresh narratives while retaining the classic “Blue Bloods” essence.
“Boston Blue” is poised to be one of the most anticipated series in the 2025–2026 TV season. Fans can catch it on CBS or stream it via Paramount+ upon release.
