Since its debut, Blue Bloods has followed the lives of the Reagan family, a dynasty of law enforcement officers in New York City. Actor Donnie Wahlberg has been a cornerstone of the show, delivering a compelling and consistent portrayal of Detective Danny Reagan. Over the years, he has shared the screen with a talented cast including Tom Selleck as the patriarch Frank Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan, and Will Estes as Jamie Reagan.
Last fall, CBS announced that the 14th season would be the series’ last. The first half of this final season aired between February and May, and the last eight episodes will hit the airwaves in the fall of 2024. Although there are still a few months left until the official end of Blue Bloods, the cast is already wrapping up their work on the series. On June 20, Wahlberg shared an emotional video on Instagram showing his last day on set.
“Last day of Blue Bloods,” he wrote. “I have no words to describe how I feel about today, or about the last 14 years on this special journey, but I know how incredibly grateful I am for every moment.”
Blue Bloods follows the Reagan family, a dynasty of law enforcement officers in New York City. The patriarch Frank Reagan, played by Tom Selleck, is the New York City Police Commissioner, while his sons Danny and Jamie are police officers, and his daughter Erin is an assistant district attorney. In his post, Wahlberg also paid tribute to the real-life New York police officers and everyone who worked on the series.
“To the entire cast, crew, every guest actor, writer, producer, and member of every department, thank you,” he wrote.
“To the people of New York, in every neighborhood and borough, thank you for always showing your love. Finally, to my fans, and the fans of this show. We wouldn’t have made it 14 days (let alone 14 years) without you! Your love and support have been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Thank you.”
Even though the series is coming to an end, some cast members have expressed interest in continuing to work on Blue Bloods. Wahlberg mentioned to Andy Cohen that there were “rumors” the show might continue, and Tom Selleck expressed his surprise at the cancellation, noting that Blue Bloods remains one of the most-watched scripted shows on network television.
