The hotly-anticipated Blue Bloods offshoot adds a fan-favorite Star Trek: Discovery star to its leading cast.
Boston Blue is set to feature a new creative team led by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis as co-showrunners, along with Jerry Bruckheimer Television’s Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed, each of whom are executive producing with Wahlberg. This marks a departure from Blue Bloods, which was created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess and was produced through CBS, Panda Productions, The Leonard Goldberg Company, and Paw in Your Face Productions. Boston Blue is currently expected to premiere sometime this Fall.
The Blue Bloods Franchise Continues
Blue Bloods premiered back in 2010 and quickly established itself as the then-latest fan-favorite police drama. The series follows the members of the Reagan family, including patriarch and NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, portrayed by Tom Selleck. Blue Bloods‘ ensemble included numerous stars such as Len Cariou as retired Commissioner Henry Reagan and Bridget Moynahan as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan. The series consistently drew major ratings and high praise from critics, which made its abrupt cancellation in December all the more shocking. Blue Bloods came to a close after 293 episodes across 14 seasons.
In March, Wahlberg expressed his excitement for Boston Blue alongside a promo for the new series. “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to [Boston Blue]! The next chapter in the [Blue Bloods] legacy begins,” Wahlberg wrote. “I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!” The post came only shortly after the confirmation that Wahlberg would be reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan in Boston Blue, which originally had no connection whatsoever to Blue Bloods, yet was folded into the Blue Bloods universe after the pilot script was ordered and given a warm reception from the network.
Boston Blue is currently expected to premiere on CBS sometime this Fall.
