Psych fans may want to tune in to Boston Blue, the upcoming offshoot to the TV series Blue Bloods. It was previously reported that Donnie Wahlberg will return in the new series, but as he relocates to Boston, he’ll be joined by an all-new ensemble cast of co-stars
Lawson is coming on board as a series regular, taking on the role of “Sarah Silver.” The character is described as the “strong willed and decisive Superintendent in the Boston Police Department” who is the stepsister of Martin-Green’s Lena. Sarah is further noted to be “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”
Hudson will play the patriarch of the Silver family, Reverend Peters, essentially taking on a role that mirrors Tom Selleck’s in Blue Bloods. Lena is his granddaughter while Sarah is his step-granddaughter. He’s also the father of Boston District Attorney Mae Silver, and grandfather to rookie cop Isaac Silver.

Psych fans will know Lawson well from her role as Detective Juliet O’Hara in the hit series, playing the character in all eight seasons along with its follow-up feature films. She also starred in the Fox comedy series Outmatched with her other TV work including Two and a Half Men, Lethal Weapon, The Ranch, and Santa Clarita Diet. Lawson has also appeared in films like Sugerplummed and Woodstockers.
Boston Blue was not originally conceived as an offshoot of Blue Bloods. It was meant to be an unrelated series that happened to also follow a family of police officers in Boston. Because fans were not thrilled that Blue Bloods was ending when the script for Boston Blue was turned in, the idea came to have the pitched series also serve as a new show set in the same universe as Blue Bloods.
Blue Bloods Gets an Offshoot
After a sneak peek was shared for Boston Blue, Wahlberg said of the show’s upcoming arrival, “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to [Boston Blue]! The next chapter in the [Blue Bloods] legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!”
Boston Blue will premiere this fall, taking over the old Friday 10 PM time slot of Blue Bloods.
