‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff Starring Donnie Wahlberg Is Official—See Where Danny Reagan Is Headed Next!

Find out whether the rest of the cast will join Wahlberg on his new venture in a new city!

Donnie Wahlberg is the new kid on the block in the new Blue Bloods spinoff series, which sees Danny Reagan go to Boston.

On February 18, CBS announced there would be a “universe expansion” in the world of Blue Bloods, in which Donnie Wahlberg will be reprising his coveted role as Detective Danny Reagan.

The spinoff currently has the working title of Boston Blue and is officially in production, set to release during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. In the new series, the oldest Reagan sibling will take a position at a Boston Police Department, where he is paired with Detective Lena Peters, “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

Boston Blue will have Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis as showrunners and executive producers, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg himself as an executive producer. Sonnier and Margolis are responsible for other successful series such as L.A.’s Finest (2019-2020).

Rumors of a spinoff began circulating when CBS announced season 14 would be the last for Blue Bloods, but nothing was officially confirmed until February 18. Paramount co-CEO Brian Robbins shared in June 2024 that “new franchise extensions are coming” for multiple CBS shows, including the beloved police procedural.
