For a police procedural, Blue Bloods shines a pretty bright spotlight on the character’s personal relationships. First, the show centered on the marriage between Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson)—until Linda’s tragic death.
Now, of course, it’s all about the engagement and impending wedding between Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray). But could another Reagan man get bit by the love bug?
Although many of the characters have had some sort of romantic interest on the show, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) has stayed mostly single following the death of his wife, Mary Margaret Reagan. However, the series has been teasing us with a character from Frank’s past who keeps coming back: Kelly Peterson, who Bebe Neuwirth plays.
Kelly first appeared in season 4 as the new Inspector General, but decided to resign after admitting to Frank she was falling for him. But then, Kelly returned in season 8, and again in season 9. Could this mean Frank might finally be reciprocating feelings for Kelly?
In an interview with TV Insider, Tom sat down to discuss his character’s romantic future. “I love working with Bebe, but I don’t see their characters getting married,” he (devastatingly) revealed. “People are always saying Frank must be lonely, so when are we going to do a romantic story? It’s important he remains a man alone in overall concept because that’s part of the sacrifice he’s made. And how do you meet, fall in love, and then have the relationship end in one episode?”
Sigh. Fans will probably always hope for Frank to fall in love, but for now, we can all live vicariously through Jamko. Tune into see the trials and tribulations of all the Reagans on Blue Bloods, every Friday at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
