Season 9 of Blue Bloods has already featured plenty of family feuds—especially surrounding the newly engaged Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray.)
The relationship has not only been a struggle for the couple, but also for Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, (Tom Selleck) who sparred with his youngest son over the lovebirds continuing as professional partners.
But while they might clash on the show, in real life, there’s definitely no disputes between the two actors. Estes exclusively tells CountryLiving.com he has the utmost respect for the for the former Magnum P.I. star and his impressive work ethic.
“He’s just one of the most professional, studied people you’ve ever met,” Estes says. “He knows the script so well when he comes to work. He just always knows how all the elements come together.”
Estes praises Selleck for his effortless portrayal of Frank, claiming the famed star really does put all of his energy into perfecting his role as the head of the NYPD. “I think the thing that most people don’t notice when they see a great performance from Tom is how studied he is,” Estes says. “He’s so good at what he does. He knows his story and he knows his character.”
Much like Jamie looks up to Frank, a bit of that father-son bond also translates to Estes and Selleck when they’re off the screen, too. “There’s all these things that I’ve learned from Tom,” Estes says. “And sometimes it’s just little things and sometimes it’s bigger things.”
We’re happy to hear the pair get along so well—but we certainly don’t mind when they bring some drama to the show, either! Catch the Reagan family in action at 10 p.m. EST every Friday on CBS.
