“‘Blue Bloods’: Total Seasons, Recent Storylines, and Viewing Options”

Blue Bloods is a binge-worthy series that centers around family, bringing the Reagans together to fight crime and prove that their bond is stronger than anything. With Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg leading the cast, the series became one of the most talked-about shows on CBS throughout its run. Many are curious to know how many seasons of the show there are.

How Many Seasons of ‘Blue Bloods’ Are There?
There are 14 seasons of Blue Bloods in total, with season 14 being the show’s last. The series finale aired in December 2024, marking the end of an unforgettable era for the cast, crew and fans. There will not be a season 15.

Fans were upset that CBS canceled the series, and showrunner Kevin Wade admitted he never planned out an ending for the show.
“I never planned out an ending, ending for a show called Blue Bloods,” he told Deadline in December 2024 after the series finale aired on television. “I looked at and by I mean, we looked at what we felt were successful series finales for long running shows, comedies and dramas, and it seemed to me that the thing that they pretty much had in common was not beating you over the head with this is the last one. What they did was they gave you a really good episode, obviously, with a tip of the hat from the start.”

“Then, for, let’s say, the last five minutes of the show, wrapping it up with that sense of anything we do from here on is going to be in your imagination,” he continued. “Anything you see in the last five minutes; we’re inviting you to imagine the show after the show is no longer on. Sopranos did it in a very significant, mercurial way. Mary Tyler Moore Show did it in a fun and bring a tear to your eye way. M.A.S.H. did a combination of the two. So, it was really just trying to hit that. I don’t know that we got there, but we were aiming high in that sense.”

Without going into too much detail for those who have not yet seen it, the show left off with a very emotional funeral and one last family dinner in the series finale.

A ‘Blue Bloods’ Offshoot Series Is on the Way
Donnie will be starring in Boston Blue, a series expansion that will see his character, Danny Reagan, take a job with the Boston PD. The show will air on CBS in the fall of 2025.

“We tried so hard to keep Blue Bloods on the air,” Donnie said. “All of us – the cast, the crew, everybody – and honestly, when I say the crew, like, working in New York with our crew was one of the great thrills of my life, and you know, we just couldn’t keep the show going, but when CBS approached me to keep the character going, I said, ‘Well, that sounds interesting.’”

“If anyone knows Danny Reagan, and if anyone knows me, I like surprises and The Reagan’s will always just be a phone call away,” he added, hinting some of his Blue Bloods costars will appear with him in the offshoot. “Danny Reagan likes to use his phone, so I imagine we will pay homage to Blue Bloods as much as we can and honor what Blue Bloods started and carry it forward, and I think have a lot of fun surprises for everybody.”
