Saying goodbye to the Netflix spinoff Fuller House has been far from easy for Bob Saget.
Recently, the 63-year-old comedian explained to Us Weekly how it felt bidding farewell to Danny Tanner after the cast wrapped up filming the final episode of Fuller House season 5.
“I was crying all over the place. It brought back a lot of memories for me,” he told the publication.
As diehard fans of the Tanners know, Bob starred in the original series, Full House, from 1987 to 1995 and chose to reprise his role in 2016 when Netflix agreed to launch a reboot of the ABC sitcom.
While Bob tells the magazine that the Fuller House cast was “prepared” for the spinoff series to come to an end after season 5, his experience with Full House was quite different. According to Bob, the original cast was completely caught off guard when ABC announced that they would be pulling the show off the air in 1995.
“At the end of Full House, I just kind of stayed by myself. We had no warning that we were going to be canceled,” he revealed. “We were asked to go to the WB or CW and John [Stamos] and I said, ‘No, let’s not do that. We should be on ABC, if we should do it.'”
Of course, even with a fair warning from Netflix, leaving the Tanner family behind for a second time has been really difficult.
“We’ve stayed friends all these years. It’s not just a press thing that we say,” he said about Fuller House stars Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin.
What’s more, he gave a nod to Andrea Barber, who also stars in the series: “To see them [Candace, Jodie, and Andrea] so accomplished and see three empowered women do a comedy kids show with morality lessons — it had those elements in the original series. I was more emotional about seeing them and being with them. It’s not the same show it used to be, but it can’t be.”
Bob is hardly the only one having a hard time letting go. Jodie, Andrea, and other cast members have posted emotional social media tributes about the fifth and final season of Fuller House.

“I thank you for all the encouraging words also, they mean a lot to me … It’s meant as much to us as it has to you guys,” she explained. “There’s no worry on our part about the future, and so I just thank you and reassure you to just have tears with us and hug along with us, ’cause that’s what we need, more the comfort and the love.”
