Production has officially begun on Boston Blue, the newest addition to the Blue Bloods universe, and the series is already making headlines with a heartfelt opening scene that pays tribute to the Reagan family legacy.
The pilot episode, directed by veteran CBS director David Barrett, begins not with action, but with quiet reflection. In the very first scene, viewers will find Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) standing in a dimly lit Boston precinct, looking at a framed photo of his late grandfather, Henry Reagan, and father, Frank Reagan. The scene is accompanied by a somber voiceover from Danny, reflecting on what it means to carry the Reagan name into a new city.
“Boston isn’t New York — it’s colder, rougher. But the badge still means the same thing. Justice. Honor. Family. And I’m not letting that go,” Wahlberg’s voice echoes.
Fans who were concerned that the spinoff would stray too far from the themes of Blue Bloods can rest easy. The creative team, led by showrunner Kevin Wade, is committed to keeping the show grounded in family values and police integrity — while giving it a modern, more emotionally complex edge.
“Danny’s a Reagan, but he’s also a man who’s seen too much. Boston Blue explores who he becomes when he’s no longer in the shadow of his father,” Wade shared in an interview.
