‘Boston Blue’ Premiere Sparks Debate After Sean Reagan Recast

After what feels like ages of anticipation, Boston Blue is officially here. As expected, the premiere episode was met with mixed reviews. Where some fans are simply thrilled to have a glimpse of the Blue Bloods family we’ve come to know and love over the past 14 years, many others are aghast at the idea that Sean Reagan was recast. (Andrew Terraciano was replaced by Mika Amonsen. After all, why not recast Jack, the son who had already largely left the series?)

According to co-showrunner Brandon Margolis, the new timeline and storyline called for a character update. “We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on ‘Blue Bloods,’” he revealed in an interview with Variety. “Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both of their lives. It’s not just Sean who has joined the family business as it were and is turning over this new leaf, but it’s also now Danny Reagan is the father to a cop, which he’s never been before.”
As a refresher, Boston Blue follows the story of Danny transferring to the Boston Police Department to work close to his son, Sean, who recently joined the force. New faces aside, fans are glad to have new answers to old Blue Bloods questions. Who knows what will come out in the months to come.
