Breaking Down the Ending of The Rookie Season 7, Episode 17

The Rookie season 7, episode 17 brings back the beloved recurring character Skip Tracer Randy (Flua Borg) and continues the season’s trend of balancing somber and hilarious plotlines. Naive bounty hunter Randy is always as endearing as he is endlessly optimistic. Fans have enjoyed watching Randy since he first appeared in The Rookie season 4, and now, he’s made hundreds of millions from cryptocurrency. From the very first scene when Randy chats with John Nolan (John Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan), it’s hard not to get excited about his return.

Viewers know the kind and well-meaning Randy can’t help but cause chaos everywhere he goes, and he finds himself in a big mess once again in the latest episode of the ABC procedural. So, how does The Rookie season 7, episode 17 end, and what happens to Randy on his latest quest?

What Happens At The End Of The Rookie Season 7, Episode 17?
The police officers talking to Skip Tracer Randy on The Rookie
At the end of The Rookie season 7, episode 17, “Mutiny and the Bounty,” Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore) and Assistant District Attorney Sean Del Monte (Michael Trucco) have a serious conversation about Sean’s son Logan, who has been struggling with addiction. Earlier in the episode, a man threatened Wesley that if charges weren’t dropped against Colin Burns, who was accused of murder, then a video of Logan would circulate. That would affect Logan’s college chances and also Sean’s dreams of running for District Attorney.

Then, Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) and Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) set up a sting operation involving their moms. A woman named Priscilla scammed Harper’s mom Ruth (Margaret Avery) into signing over the deed to her house, and Lopez’s mom Emilia (Rose Portillo) pretends to own Lopez’s house to catch Priscilla. Lopez and Harper show up and arrest her. This plotline is not only fast-paced and entertaining, but it sheds some light on Harper’s relationship with her mom. While her mom says people are inherently good, Harper thinks more realistically.

Nolan and the team follow up on Randy’s case: the kidnapping of Nolan’s half-brother Pete’s (Pete Davidson) wife Chastity Sneed (Meg Delacy), who Randy has developed romantic feelings for. The LAPD officers record a call between Randy and the kidnappers to try to find out their location. While fans look forward to seeing another big character in the season 7 finale, it’s also great to catch up with Randy. He shows his humorous and happy-go-lucky personality when he says:

“I’m Skip Tracer Randy. I have the gift of the gab.”

As Sean and Logan are driving together, a shoot-out occurs, and Logan is injured. Sean drops out of the DA race. Meanwhile, Chastity escapes and shares the location and identity of her kidnappers. When the officers show up at the mall where they’ve been, it’s the kind of thrilling, action-paced scene fans have come to expect from The Rookie.

The Rookie season 7, episode 17 ends with Kike Hernandez showing up at the LAPD station and explaining that Randy paid him to hang out with Tim for three hours, and they play baseball. Harper and her mom share a moving moment when Harper says, “It is a superpower to still see the good in people,” and their relationship is in a good place. Then, Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) sings the song she wrote for Rodge’s birthday, and Rodge (Zander Hawley) shares he’s going on tour in Europe. Finally, Lucy learn she passed her sergeant’s exam, which is an ongoing storyline from the previous episode. However, there’s a catch: Lucy gets a new position as sergeant on the night shift. Lucy and Tim smile at each other as this means they’re working opposite shifts now.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 17 Is A Fun Reintroduction To Skip Tracer Randy
The Rookie season 7, episode 17 brings back Skip Tracer Randy, and while a lot is going on in this episode, his humorous, naive, and innocent personality still adds something special and unique to the series. It’s also nice to focus on this light-hearted character after more somber storylines this season, including Bailey and Nolan’s dashed adoption wishes.

The episode opens with Randy showing up at Bailey and Nolan’s house and asking for advice on how to win over Chastity. When Nolan opens the door, Randy explains he wants Bailey’s advice and says:

“What a joy to my eyes. I need advice from my bestie.”

While fans debate how likable Seth Ridley (Patrick Keheler) is, there’s no doubt that Randy’s humor and heart make him one of the most popular recurring characters. Although he keeps finding himself in the middle of a big mess that he needs to clean up because of his naive personality, he admits he keeps getting into trouble, and he never fails to be charming. Although it would be great to see Randy more often, this was a memorable appearance.
