The news is BIG, but the character behind the buzz it is still quite tiny!
Earrings and white gloves for eloquent ball gowns, tea cups and carriages full of new couples, estates and gossip, new hairstyles for the Queen: these are a few of our favorite Bridgerton things. Right in time for Christmas, Bridgerton made the announcement in an Instagram post that Penelope and Colin just welcomed a baby boy: Lord Elliot Featherington.
This post comes as part of the show’s #12DaysofBridgerton marketing to get fans ready for the season 4 premiere in January. Is a baby announcement over the top? Heavens, no! It doesn’t come as a complete shock, but the cleverly timed announcement does the little guy justice, because it would feel a little anti-climactic to find this out while watching the first few episodes.
Fan reactions to the new addition on Bridgerton
The formal announcement is another way to bring fans into the Bridgerton world, while feeling like we’re really a part of the characters’ journeys. Penelope and Colin had quite the bumpy road to marriage, but in the end, they couldn’t deny the deep love that their friendship cultivated into romantic bliss.
Penelope always had her writing, but now she has a new bundle of joy to keep her hands and mind busy. Hopefully we will still get to hear her voice expressed, both as Penelope, and as the controversial Lady Whistledown in the new season.

Despite the excitement of the baby news, fans in the comments are fuming with questions about why there was no birth announcement for the Duke and Duchess from season 1. Fans also have lots of questions about a birth announcement for Kate, the Viscountess, who was pregnant during season 3. Sounds like production may have to make up for this oversight somehow.
Are there more babies coming in the Bridgerton family?
Deadline breaks down the Bridgerton family tree for fans, starting with who married who for each of the Bridgerton siblings, and giving us the deets on their littlest additions. If you remember from Bridgerton season 2, Daphne and Simon revealed their first child, a baby girl. Hopefully, we will see her return in season 4 to keep Lord Elliot company. In the books, Daphne and Simon have several more children, so maybe we will see quite a few cousins playing together in season 4.
Then there is the question of Kate and Anthony’s pregnancy. Will we get to see the family of three in season 4? While those are the only couples with babies featured thus far, the showrunners could certainly take liberty with the storyline to change some of the family dynamics in the series. We’re not even halfway through the full series yet, so we can assume that production will keep us on our toes about baby announcements and more as each season is revealed.
Watch the new season of Bridgerton on Thursday, Jan. 29 on Netflix.
