Hopefully, your hearts have recovered from the ups and downs of Kate and Anthony’s tumultuous love story in season 2 because the latest season, which focuses on the relationship between Penelope and Colin, is gearing up to be just as steamy and sensational!
Just in case you wanted the Lady Whistledown-esque lowdown before you dive into Shonda Rhimes’ regency-era show, you’ve come to the right place! We have all the info about Bridgerton’s third season, including cast news, plot details, release dates, and more.
Is there a trailer for Bridgerton season 3 part 2?
If you sped through the first four episodes of season 3 (and have already begun your rewatch of the series), you’ll be glad to know that Netflix and Shondaland have released a sneak preview of part 2! The trailer for Bridgerton season 3 part 2, which was released on June 3, 2024, starts right where Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) left off at the end of part 1 (think: steamy carriage ride).
With news of the unexpected couple’s engagement making its rounds, everything seems to be going smoothly—except for the fact that Eloise knows Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown! “Until he knows the real you, he cannot possibly love you,” Eloise tells Penelope in the trailer. While you’re waiting for the next round of episodes to drop, sit back, relax, and watch the rest of the trailer below!
Good news! Season 3 officially premiered on Netflix on Thursday, May 16, 2024, which means Part 1 (episodes 1-4) is available to stream right now! Part 2 (episodes 5-8) is slated to be released on June 13, 2024.
Fans of the romance drama were first teased about the season’s multi-part format back in December when Netflix released an exciting season 3 teaser narrated by Lady Whistledown.
Which Bridgerton book is this season based on?
Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) got their happily ever after at the end of season 2, which means all eyes are now on Penelope, Colin, and their friends-to-lovers arc. Although we’re only on the third season of Bridgerton, the storyline that the latest installment is based on comes from the fourth book in Julia Quinn’s series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
While the third book in the series follows the story of the second Bridgerton son, Benedict, the showrunners’ decision to skip to the fourth follows an explosive plot twist that occurred at the end of the previous season!
To refresh your memory of the season 2 finale, not only was Penelope’s alter ego, Lady Whistledown, exposed to Eloise, but Penelope overheard Colin (her long-time crush) tell his friends that he would never court a girl like her. Talk about a bombshell!
In an official season 3 synopsis released by Netflix, the streaming service confirmed viewers’ suspicions: “Penelope Featherington has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing his disparaging words about her… She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband.”
But that’s not all: “Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season.”
Is the original Bridgerton cast coming back?
Gentle readers with a penchant for a familiar face will be glad to hear that some of the original Bridgerton cast have returned for season 3! As we mentioned before, Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan will be headlining the season as Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Also returning to the show are Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, and most of the Bridgerton family. Bailey revealed that he’s here to stay in an interview with BAFTA in March 2024. “I look forward to supporting the rest of the family and the stories that go forward because if there’s one thing I know about beloved worlds, it’s that you want to see them through, and people invest their love and their time, and it means so much to so many people,” Bailey said.
Sadly, neither fan-favorite Regé-Jean Page nor Phoebe Dynevor will make appearances in the third season of the series.
Who are the new cast members?
You know what they say: out with the old and in with the new! We can expect a fair share of new characters in season 3, with the biggest one being Francesca (Hannah Dodd), the third Bridgerton daughter, who was recast after being portrayed by Ruby Stokes in earlier seasons.
The new faces don’t end there! Netflix announced that Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis), Lord Debling ( The Crown’s Sam Phillips), Harry Dankworth (James Phoon), and Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) will also be gracing our screens this season, according to Deadline. Looks like we have a new show to binge!
