Bridgerton season 3 has been a huge hit for Netflix, and the streaming platform has now confirmed just how popular the Shonda Rhimes drama has been
Bridgerton’s third season has left Netflix subscribers in a swoon, and the streaming giant now has the numbers to back it up. The latest instalment of Shonda Rhimes’ hit drama was just as captivating as its predecessors, with Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton taking centre stage as fans eagerly watched the blossoming romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton.
The season was rife with scandal, culminating in the revelation of Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown to all of high society. Released in two parts in May and June, the strategy seems to have paid off for Netflix.
The viewing stats for the third season are nothing short of impressive, clocking in at a whopping 91.9 million views since the first half debuted on May 16. These figures were tallied on June 30, according to Variety, and are expected to continue growing.
Currently, it ranks 10th on Netflix’s all-time list for English-language shows, hot on the heels of the second season which is the platform’s ninth most-watched series ever. The inaugural season still holds the crown, sitting at number four with 113.3 million views within its first 91 days.
However, with a few weeks remaining before the counting period for the third season ends, there’s still time for it to ascend the ranks.
It’s up against some tough competition from other Netflix favourites. Currently, the second and third seasons of the Regency drama are outperformed by Stranger Things season three, Fool Me Once and The Night Agent.
The Queen’s Gambit continues to hold its own four years after its release, sitting at number five, while DAHMER: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is in third place, surpassing the first three seasons of Bridgerton so far.
