Bridgerton season 4 is officially in the works and while there’s no release date yet, we do know that a number of characters will be returning to the Netflix series
Bridgerton buffs are abuzz with chatter as word spreads that season four’s Lady in Silver role has been cast, adding to the select few confirmed to be gracing our screens once more.
The show’s next installment promises to pluck Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton from his supporting spot and thrust him into the spotlight, as he becomes utterly captivated by Yerin Ha’s Sophie Beckett – her character having a Cinderella moment at a masquerade ball, in the series’ fresh adaptation of Julia Quinn’s revered An Offer From a Gentleman novel.
Luke is set to charm us yet again, bringing his Regency rogue back for a fourth stint, while Jonathan Bailey dished out on Good Morning America his return to the Bridgerton brood as the elder Viscount Anthony Bridgerton.
Jonathan, brimming with excitement about the forthcoming scripts, remarked, “We’re going to follow the stories.
“The thing about Bridgerton, which is so brilliant, is that there’s so many different ways you can fall in love as humans and that’s what this show will explore. Obviously being the older brother, I’m going to be there to support the youngsters as we go.”
Considering the developments from season three, featuring Viscount Anthony and his beloved Viscountess Kate (played by Simone Ashley) who now expect their firstborn and are vacationing in India, it wouldn’t be surprising if she too made an appearance in the new episodes, reports the Daily Star.
A few months back, Bridgerton’s showrunner Jess Brownell told Teen Vogue that “the door is open”, adding: “We love Jonny and Simone and we’ll have them back as much as we are able to. They give so much, even with just tiny little looks and gestures. They’re a magic pairing, absolutely.”
She also acknowledged the need to respect the other commitments of their lead actors, stating: “And to ask actors to come back just to be in the background is not really fair to them.”
In a chat with TheWrap, Jess hinted at what lies ahead for Nicola Coughlan’s character Penelope Featherington, who unveiled herself as the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown in the previous season.
“Now Pen will have to navigate what it’s like to be a public gossip columnist, not only dealing with the people she writes about, but also taking steps to be more accountable in what she writes,” revealed the Bridgerton chief. “I think accountability and authenticity are two things that she’s had to really face [in season three], and we’re gonna continue that thread going into season four.”
Coughlan herself confirmed to the same outlet in May that she and Colin Newton will return as Penelope and Luke Newton. “It’ll be exciting. [We’ll] pop back and have some fun for sure,” she expressed.
